I found that an banknote and stamp engraver creates an three dimensional impression faraway better than photographs. Why because he controls everything , he doesnt bother with unnesasary information ,creates lines and bend the lines , thicken or thinned the lines , mixing the lines to form a grid.

I want to discuss the line angle instant change with referencing the 3d shape of portrait.



Look at the macro photograph , facial side lines changes their flow to another angle instantly on the nose.

How we can do such lines and their line change.

I know holography uses grid , may be we can put a grid and lens distorts the grid.

I can't answer your question, but, as your accompanying illustration shows, many of us philatelists often find the (mostly) older engraved stamps much more attractive and interesting than typical modern issues usually printed with the photolithography process.

I'll date myself... ...but when I was growing up, Czeslaw Slania was celebrated by the Swedish post office for his engraving craft in the same way the virtuoso camera designer Yoshihisa Maitani was featured in Olympus' advertising in the US.

Anyway, getting back to photography, the crisp-line effect is most likely to be found today in photographs printed via inkjet, with a certain approach to sharpening. Not halos-everywhere oversharpening, mind you - it takes a subtle touch to do it well. Not normally what I want for my pictures, but some people are good at it.

You can do "sharpening" in purely analog mode too - for example, see Howard Bond's writing about unsharp masking - but the effect isn't quite the same at the fine-detail level.

I found older the camera lens , and older the Engraving is better. I admire some of the nature engravings of Nordic engravers too much but it comes to Portraits , I cant say the same for Slania , I found his thickness grades of lines of portraits are very thick and it darkens the subject and gives a effect it coated with asphalt. Slania made too much engraving and I think he made them like a factory makes art. Its too much standartized and lack of invention. I saw Hornsby engravings and they were smooth like a silk and you can feel the air around the subject.
Lot thinner lines and gaveaway more elegant curves on the subject , Slania curves are more basic , faster , thicker and uninventiveness.
Look to the modern nordic design , they are faraway more basic than barn door and price tag for a plywood chair is 10000 dollars , hah !
I dont need to pay their workers Java holiday , university education as they dont to me.

Lets come to the main subject , After 10 years of research , I found that good lens is the most important thing and computer cant simulate it because the lens is the first viewer of the three dimensional subject. If you dont model your art at computer for several weeks , illuminate with raster and carry to 2d file or if you dont take stereo to multiple images and create a 3d file at computer , you dont have access to Leitz quality.

Its possible if you do want back pain, if you want free software , dealing with viruses , anti virus softwares. But it still possible and that is wonderful.

My real aim is to survive from analog digital camera , film , computer and carry my art maker with me. Its a flat glass piece and when you look through it , you see the composition as van gogh or rembrandt or gaugen drawing or a engraving.

I found few papers about flat printed lenses which makes optical effects. I am trying to understand the optical design math and physics and quantum chemistry and carry to computer power and than universal file

Some one will get a file copy , print on transparent medium , attach it to plexi and hey, all the classic art in your hands.

I need to learn , which optical design math helps to calculate , lens sees 3d and distorts the line filter as engraver.

Thats the plan.

Long post short , is there a optics technology sensitive to 3D and could rotate the lines in the reference of 3D Original Relief or Human Face to give line drawing and 3D effect in 2D ?

Reaching to that idea costs me forget better ideas which I created at the army 20 years ago and cost me 4000 posts and 10 years to remember them again.
