...from sliding off a bald head is to stick one of those self adhesive velcro coins on your noggin. Works like a charm! If you've got some fuzz up there shave it off and it will stick better (although it definately will stick better the next time!)

If you put some on the back of your dome it kind of makes you look like you're on the set of Matrix

How cool is that?

Innovation at its finest  Highly practical, but it still made me chuckle!

I wear a baseball cap, which helps in two ways. It keeps the darkcloth from slipping off my otherwise balding head. Since I turn it backwards to be able to get my face close to the GG, this has the addition advantage of instantly lowering my IQ and I can compose without worrying about any over-intellectualizing.

PS...a warning about the velcro "coins". Take them off your head occasionally, or at least move it around some. Otherwise you'll get a light spot on the top of your head similar to a watch-tan mark on one's arm.

Much of the shooting season I have a "Velcro haircut" anyway - and it does keep the dark cloth from sliding off!

i have a mop on top, and might shave my head just to do this
plus i like the idea of leaving the "coin" on too long
so i look like i am ready for cable hook-up <g>.

I just use staples... it only hurts for a few minutes!!

But surely large format users get enough of a strange reaction from Joe and Josephine Public for carting about all that wooden furniture, not to mention sympathetic 'can't afford a modern digital camera' type looks when they set up their equipment. Will sticking patches of velcro to the bonce while doing so help matters??

This reminds me of when I bought my Technikardan which was from a shop in Germany. I made a list of everything I thought I needed and ordered it all from the shop. I asked the guy, who spoke basic english, if there was anything else I would need. He said I would need some clothes which I thought I was a very odd thing to suggest and I declined. After I left the shop I realised what he meant which was a dark cloth. I got a call a couple of weeks later to say everything was ready and went to collect the camera.
The assistant had obviously realised I didn't understand what he meant and had looked up an alternative word. When I got to the shop he asked me if wanted a rug to put on my head. I just burst into laughter. I don't think he understood why. In the UK a rug for your head is slang for a toupee (hairpiece).

Velcro toupeé's for sale.
Send $19.99 to Ronco, Inc.

Carpet tacks work quite well. Undertaker use them to keep toupees in place.:surprised:
