Bad news about my 35mm f2.8 Summiron.

Got an email from Don from DAG camera. Don relayed that he is unable to repair my 35mm Summiron. This is a punch to the gut. It's like I tossed $400.00 bucks out the friggen car window. So.... I m in the market for another. If any one has one or knows of anyone wanting to sell, let me know.

What was the problem of this Summaron? Was it one with goggles?

The lens catch on flange got chipped, so lens the lens doesn't snap in place. The lens will literally fall off the camera body. I might me able to sell the as a spare parts piece. Start saving money for another one.

If I understand you correctly, the mount of your Summaron is damaged, but the optics are unharmed. A budget solution in your case could be to look for a cheap goggled Summaron with defective optics (haze/fungus/scratches) and simply swap the mounts.

That's an idea...The lens is perfect. The flange and goggles took the hit. Insurance..? you think home owners insurance might be possible?

I also sent a an email to my insurance person this morning to see what my home owners insurance covers. Got my fingers crossed.

Don't know, I have separate insurance for my photo gear, but no harm asking. Fingers crossed.

Second opinions are always good in these situations as the resources of repair shops tend to be different given the peculiarities of the individuals involved.

Or maybe a screwmount flange could be found.

Got a call from insurance lady.. No go. Plus I have a 500.00 deductible even if it did fit a certain type of criteria. Maybe something will pop up on the radar here in the classified in the near future or KEH. So sad...

I sent my M3 with goggled Summilux on a solo trip down some stairs once and did this to the lens. Mine was still good enough, though battered, to stay on. I always thought that the way to deal with it would be to take the back of the mount completely off, have someone braze a drop of brass on the problem, and start over, filing the addition flat and grinding a new groove in it. There's got to be a repairman somewhere who could do that. (Where's Marty Forscher when you need him?)

Uhhh! currently deceased, have you considered SK Grimes?

FWIW rather than brazing bits wouldn't it be easier to drill & tap a hole & put a stop screw in?

Lens sold to a APUG member. If he can get going again he will have a sweet lens.
