As posted in another thread, I got my darkroom back together and upgraded a bit. The last time I printed was maybe 10 years ago, but then only briefly. Before that was back in maybe 1996 or so.

Here are the early results. I have to make some dodging tools, and these are printed on 5x7 since I have a big box of leftover Ilford RC paper.

Plus-X 125 developed in D-76. Probably 15-year old film stored poorly (4 years in non-air conditioned storage in Phoenix). Required grade 4 filter, which is the strongest I have in my box.

Tri-X 400 developed in D-76 similarly abused. Required grade 4 and some burning of top and bottom since the fogging is much worse nearer the film edge. Holy grain, batman!

Here is some new Tri-X, developed in D-76. Much easier to print. No burning/dodging needed. Can't even see the grain.

Not a bad start. My Kodak Polymax isn't fogged, but it's a little yellow. I need to try some of that and see how ugly it looks when printed. I have 50 sheets of 8x10 that I hate to see go to waste. I can at least use it for contact sheets. I also need to make some burning/dodging tools.

I'm going to play more with the plus-x and tri-x to see what I can do to work around the fogging. I have 25-50ft left of each and I hate for it to go to waste too. I have a jug of new HC110, and I have heard that can take the fog down a little. Any suggestions for exposure/development using what I have on hand (D76 and HC110)?

Just buying new film is probably the most logical solution.

-J.
