I found a Toyo 45cx that is missing the focusing screen and back. The only parts I can find are from Toyo and they are asking around $500 for a back, it's only a $700 camera. What am I missing? Can I use or adapt any other 4x5 backs to this camera? I was thinking of 3d printing my own back and making up hardware with a couple of springs.

Help! Thanks.

hi

good luck finding a back !
there are 2 styles, one revolves the other
you remove and place the 2nd orientation.
toyo stuff is nice and expensive when new ...

I have half the back, I am missing the ground glass frame. The focusing screen too but I can get those at a decent price.

Since the "T" depth is the same for 4X5's why not pick up a anonymous GG frame on the bay and adapt it?

I've got a 45D with a shot bellows that I'm going to sell in parts one of these days, it revolves and the glass comes off to fit rollfilm holders (I'm still not sure of the terminology of what's 'Graflok' and what's 'International').
The revolving bit of the back screws into the frame, as opposed to a 45G-style where the back has the same frame-size as the bellows-frame and lensboards and is all modular.
I'm not sure what a CX has (I know it's got a 45A style front, not sure about the back).
Are you missing just the bit-with-glass that clips into the revolving bit, or the entire frame? Take a few photos and I might be able to help you out.

I was missing the glass and the frame the glass goes in. That is the part that is sprung and keeps the film holder in.

I found a complete Toyo 45C for less than the price of the ground glass that I knew I needed for the 45cx. I'm waiting for the 45 c to be shipped. I don't know if i'll just use the 45c camera or take the back off of it and put it on the 45cx. Or build a hybrid camera because the 45c has geared standards....

hi k soze

from what i laerned from toyo ( i have a cx )
some of the parts from other toyos wont' fit on it ..
the rail, for example, they told me was a different size
than other cameras they made/sold and there was no way to extend it or change it.

MAC group ( toyo ) have a 800# ( on the toyo website ) it might
be worth a call to ask them what will and won't work ...
good luck !

The rail is the same size between the two per the Toyo spec sheet. The too parts list also says they use the same back From what I can tell the 45c was the predecessor of the 45cx. Other than that I have no idea what other parts are interchangeable.

In any case the 45c is a complete camera, so I will e good to go.

After reading every post, I'm still confused regarding what you need. Do you need only the focus panel that slides onto the back and locks into place with two sprung clips? If so then I can't help you. I do have a complete back though... the larger piece that locks onto the camera body.

I needed what you are calling "focus panel that slides onto the back and locks into place with two sprung clips" The Toyo parts list calls it the "ground glass frame"

I have one in route to me now, thank you everyone.
