Hello APUG,

After nearly 10 years I finally got back behind a camera and the bathroom smells like fixer again.
i moved from Guatemala to Colombia, which is a beautifull but complicared country, photo-wise. Most photochemicals are considered controlled substances, so my previous choices of developers and fixers are out of the question.
Back to HC-110.
I have started working on a portfolio of local plants, using 120 and 8x10. Any contact information on local APUGeros is welcome. Once I have something worth hanging on a wall, figure out how to squeeze it into a computer (it took about 10 attempts to register - I'll never figure out how to use these things), I'll post photos again. Still enjoy the images I got during the Blind Print Exchanges many years ago. They are hanging right in front of me.

Cheers,

Peter

Welcome back!

Have you done C-41 before? It's really easy; I just wonder if the chemicals would be easier to get.

Thanks ! I did color for about two weeks, maybe 15 years ago, and there was something bothering me about the prints. After looking at them for a month or so, I realized what was bugging me: printing color was the same thing I did every day for ten hours: calibrate colors.
I didn't enjoy printing color because it was too much like everyday work. Sold the color head and have been printing exclusively B&W since then. Just love its silent glow

Welcome back Peter, I like the glow of black and white also, tried color way back when but was not good at the colors so kept on with B&W.

Welcome back, Peter. I think I have one of your images from a print exchange many years ago also - it was a lobster-claw lily, if I recall correctly. Now might be a good time to investigate mixing your own developers from scratch - it might be easier to get the individual components than the pre-mixed formulas. And there's always Caffenol - you should be able to make some of the best Caffenol ever there in Colombia at the source of the beans!

I made one colour print in 1984. I don't think I will try another one!

Thanks ! I used to prepare all my chemicals from scratch. That is precisely the problem locally: most ingredients are fiscalized by authorities. It is not impossible to import them, but it is a Royal PITA ! Your lobster-claw was printed on Azo Paper, of which I have a few hundred sheets, but not a gram of Amidol. I have filled out all forms and handed them in. Meanwhile I'm having a blast making photos. By the time I can print, I'll have enough negatives to have fun.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi. I probably used Petrock or a similar LogIn before. I try to stick to words I can remember after three drinks.

Cheers,

Peter
