Does anyone know of a place that will still print off medium format negatives on actually B&W paper in the GTA? I went to a few places and they said they only print B&W negatives onto colour paper. I saw an example of that and the blacks looked pretty bad. Sadly I do not currently have the option of having my own setup at home. I do not want to scan and print it that way...

Any advice or tips?

Cheers

If you can scan the negative I find that Adorama des a very good job and they allow you to choose black and whire paper to use for print.

West Camera (Queen St West near Portland in downtown Toronto) has done some nice printing for me off b/w film. You need a good printer who knows how to get good blacks and I was happy with West's work.

Presuming you're looking for 4x6 (or a bit larger) sized prints.

If GTA means Toronto, then Bob Carnie at Elevator is where you need to go. I wish I could get there on less than a tank of gas. Even though I do all my own printing, he'd be my first stop if I needed something printed.

Where in the GTA are you?

I would be pleased to host others to print images for themselves in one of my darkroom areas from time to time.
I am in SW Mississauga, and actuallly am on a public transit route with a fairly direct link to the Lakeshore GO if that is an issue as to how you get around. PM me if interested.

There are also Gallery 44 downtown ( kind of pricey, I believe), and Latow's, a camera club in a community arts centre mmunity darkroom out in Burlington if you want to print images on your own.

I have my main enlarger to 4x5 inch in the primary darkroom, a secondary one to 6x7 in the adjacent laundry room, and to 5x7 inch in the adjacent workroom (too big for the compact darkroom).

All have filters fitted or are dichroic sources to allow printing on MG B&W paper, and lots of trays and paper so more than one can be working at a time.
Separable areas with separate white and safelight too, although I have not actually worked the space separately with another at the same time to see how workable the set up really is.

Great thank you for all the replies! I was hoping for smaller more economical prints but I know this may not be realistic. I am student away from my usual dark room ( there is one at McGill) and was looking for a budget option. I know that everyone just tells me to scan and print, but honestly, anyway you spin it it just isn't the same...

I did a bit more research and found "Toronto Black and White" to offer these services as well!

@Mike: Wow thank you that is a really generous offer! I am pretty busy and stuck in the city most of the time but maybe I will take you up on that in the future
