Happy New Year, David.

I really wish there was just one magazine for film based black and white photographers. It is too bad that "Emulsion" could not make it. But perhaps the magazine printed on paper that you can hold in your hand to read is going the same way that newspapers appear to be. A good friend of mine here who has been a photographer for the Grand Rapids Press for many, many years was just let go. If newspapers cannot afford and/or no longer need photographers, why do they bother to remain in business?

I'm surprised it's taken them this long. The next step will be to simply combine the two.

As a subscriber to B&W, I was sent an offer to subscribe to Color...which I did. I'm looking forward to the first issue. I hope it's successful.

I checked out the first issue today. I didn't know that b+w had anything to do with it until I recognized the layout and text. The printing isn't as bad as b+w's. I almost bought it actually.

I won't be buying it. That enormous typo on the cover does not bode well for the content.

So, it won't be yet another digital photography/photoshop creations mag?

I just bought it and the majority of the content is film based. Not bad at all.

Yes, Dr. Johnson would consider that an enourmous errour.

Well. it's about time. Color photography always seems to take a back seat to the other avenues of the medium. I hope the magazine does well and I will buy a copy or two when it hits the newsstand.

Maybe they should change the name to Rainbow Magazine, as now all colors qualify, apparently.

so far as i can see, it's bit strange to start a magazine devoted to color when you already have other magazines devoted to color such as blindspot, focus, aperture, jpg, eyemazing, silvertshotz and so on. what nitch do they fill that isn't being filled by each of those magazines?

damn, gm just dropped below $2.99.

I like Focus but it got too far into gallery promotions. Thanks for heads up on the other magazines. I never gave Silvershotz a look because the covers I saw were always B&W. My bad.
One of the things I have been wanting to no more about is Hand colored prints. I recently saw shom at a museum show and thought "WOW!". Anyone do an article about those photographers of yester year who hand colored?

Just got my copy today and I think that Color may fill a magazine niche for color work, at least for me, time will tell though. BTW, JPG is no longer published and these days (and for a long time), I've been non pulsed with Blindspot and Aperture. I'm on the fence with Silvershotz and I've never seen a copy of Eyemazing. As for Focus I've never been tempted to buy a copy.

I think Blindspot is the best printed of them all, followed by Aperture. i've got a soft spot in my heart for focus ever since they published the interview with bruce davidson and i'm a big steve mccurry fan so i'm looking forward to their next issue. Silvershotz, I think has the best selection of photographic work out there.

What do you mean JPG is no longer printed? I just saw a copy at the bookstore the other day?

I bought a copy today and plan to read it before hitting the sack. So far, I like what I see. The article about the history of color photography and one on Eliot Porter is of great interest to me. I have and always will be a fan of Mr. Porters work. I did check out Silvershotz and passed. It does look like a great magazine but heavy of the other forms of photography and light on color.
I wonder why color is so looked upon so? Is it a reaction because color is so prevalent in our visual world? Is it because the general public can do or does color photography? Is it because color is usually done by labs and not by hand?
What do you all think?

Perhaps if it makes it to the UK it can be sold with an optional sick on 'U'

Are you referring to the wrong tense of the word "premier" (premiere)? There's actual mistakes in the text inside. (Never mind the awful font.) Nothing is proofread anymore.

I think what does not bode well for the content is that the initial cover "illustration" is barely a photograph. (Again, IMHO ... )

I stand by my prognostication that the two magazines will be combined in short order.
