B&L Lens - what was it on?

I dug up a lens that got shipped over here that I forgot about - no cameras to put it on (until this month?). What was it designed for?

It's a Bausch and Lomb, 8 1/4", f4.5-f8 (there had been another that went down to f16 at one time). Its stamped 'Sept 7, 1962' 1:1 MAG on the barrel. Nice 16-bladed aperature, no shutter. Its about 2" in diameter, weighs at least 1 lb.

Is it a process lens? My only other experience was with an Apo-Ronar, which was a very different beast Any ideas?

Sounds like it may be an oscilloscope lens.

Hmmm. Hadn't thought of that. Any way that I can look at it and make sure?

I think these were used on the original Xerox machines.

I always assumed these lenses were from some kind of copy machine. I used one on an Elwood 5x7 enlarger with moderate success. It should serve better as a copy lens for flat subjects at the indicated 1:1 magnification. Years ago information was available for using half of the optics for a small telescope objective.

Thanks! I was thinking about copier lenses, but thought that 1962 was a little early. I'll see what its capable of, other than for putting a serious dent in anything it gets thrown at - it's a heavy beast for its size. I've got too much background light here to turn it into a telesccope.
