B&H not shipping chemicals anymore?... AGAIN?

Weird that it's now an "important notice". I'm officially done thinking about it.
Yikes! Ok my mistake. Both ads show store pickup. I'm now leaving my post as minister of disinformation.

It is always prudent to clear one's cache .

grateful that we have many retail supplier from which to choose.
I'm happy to shop at freestyle.

It is even more confusing! This is a newly refreshed screen shot
It was the same on my screen until ai added it to my cart and then it said, “This chemical is available for in-store pickup only.”

I guess I’ll be buying my chemicals from Freestyle for the next foreseeable future.

I know that I just got some film from them that came via Fed Ex. previously order in the spring was via UPS.

Freestyle looks like they will ship a 1 Litre Ilfotec DD-X to Canada for 23.99 plus 30 bucks for FIMS shipping (The one where fed ex ships it to Sweden and mails it from there.) So not a practical alternative.

And before UPS it was by Purolator.

BH is the only USA store, I'm aware of, which is charging no or small charge on shipping. The rest in USA seems to think Canada is at another side of the Moon.

Yes, that's a good observation. I buy most of my film and chemistry of late, from Unique photo. Some, in fact, a lot ship free. Unique is small enough they remember who you are. They sell Kodak color chemistry in less than case quantities. I ordered something from B&H ,a filter I think, I got the FedEx Home delivery notice just now.

I bought a lens from a very nice small dealer from Japan. It was here in 36 hours, FedEx Express, I had to set my alarm to make sure I was up

We should buy a couple houses a couple hundred feet apart on the border. Build a tunnel between the basements. B&H in, good whiskey out.

situation is very curious. They will ship, even free with a 100 dollar order Legacy Pro L-110 (16Oz) but will not ship Kodak Hc-110 2019 edition. (1l) since the new version of HC-110 came out, I have the distinct impression that the material inside the bottle for both is likely from the same vat in Michigan.

Heh. If not for the pandemic, I'd be doing the honest version of this. I have a PO box in northeastern Montana. And I shipped a bottle of 30-year-old rye whiskey to a guy in Utah once.

Who needs Swiss bank accounts when PO Boxes do the trick!

Such speculation and complaining. I purchase things from Freestyle if B&H won't ship them. But, for those who are significantly impacted (like Canadians), have any of you simply asked Henry Posner about the latest change? He's reachable at

and has always been extremely responsive to questions. Although not on Saturdays.

Whoever flags these items is exceedingly cautious. A few months ago I noticed that they were the only vendor who wouldn't ship C41 powder kits. I contacted them, and someone did a review and determined that they could actually ship some of the C41 kits.

I think the problem is that they prefer to ship via air-mail, and there are restrictions on corrosives being shipped by air. It does require more paperwork and packaging, though.

Who is they? You don't mention what store you contacted. Sounds like you're referring to B&H. I just ordered chemicals from Freestyle and they shipped immediately.

one has to wonder, Someone posted on facebook that they were unable to order D76. I had a look and indeed both D76 and ID.11 were not shippable, BUT arista 76 was shippable but out of stock and Legacy Pro L76 was in stock and shippable. I told the person that L76 is designed to be a replacement for D76 and that I would expect that it should give the same results. (and is cheeper also) Freestyle does say "Use the same as Kodak D76."

Since it is winter, I don't order liquid chems when it is freezing out, so I am hoping that HC-110 will be shipable by spring.

Since the thread is titled "B&H not shipping chemicals anymore?", and Freestyle has not been mentioned as not shipping chemicals anywhere in this thread, I assumed that perhaps context would be sufficient.

Sorry for the confusion-- Yes, I contacted B&H who reviewed their policies, and determined that at least some C41 powder kits could be shipped.

Thing about chemistry - I always order enough to last me a while. Shipping might be more with smaller stores that can't make sweetheart deals with Fed Ex or UPS - but for a tiny bit of money, I'm happy to help keep them in business. Plus, places like Freestyle distribute film for small film manufacturers that might not be able to keep certain films available.

I try to order enough of the liquid chemistry to last as well. I try to avoid ordering things in a rush too so shipping time is generally a smaller issue for me. But still, three bottles of TMax developer takes about a week to get to me (ground shipping) from California, and I can make that same order from B&H, add a roll of P3200 film, have it in about a day, and still spend less than I would on the Freestyle order without the film. So I tend to stick to the local suppliers for efficiency and price. They're both good resources though and I order from each.

In my opinion, B&H and Freestyle are first rate stores. I am happy to order from both of them, which for my needs has usually meant 2/3 of the time with B&H and 1/3 of the time with Freestyle. However, B&H's new shipping policies will likely mean 3/4+ Freestyle. B&H undoubtably understands the likely loss of business of sales in the traditional photography market when setting their shipping policies.

As I have posted in the past, I expect the shipping vagaries reflect the requirements of the shipping companies who give B&H their highly preferential shipping offerings.
And those requirements are probably affected by the current pandemic.
In many ways I would prefer that "free shipping" offerings be replaced with "shipping at cost", where the cost was fair.

B&H must have got what they wanted from their shipping company, or some other special circumstance. They are shipping most all black and white chemistry again, liquids most everything I looked at. Free shipping.

Take a look at the paper developers. No shipping of Dektol or Bromophen or Liquidol or ....
