Thanks for the post! My Parents moved to WV in 1967 when my Father accepted a position teaching ChemEng at WVTech, then in Montgomery, a small city about 25 miles south of Charleston on US 60. They greatly enjoyed the countryside and the people; my Mother took up weaving and bought a 4 heddle barn loom. I have many pleasant memories of visiting them, sad to say the mining industry has really damaged the state. Flying over the devastation of mountaintop removal is all too evident.

I'm from peasant stock. As for mining damaging the state, it's simple people trying to make a living. It's hard and dirty work that not many people today are capable of doing. I find the tintypes interesting because of how genuine the images feel to me.
