Avast Antivirus won't open Hamrick (Vuescan) site claims it's infected????

I'm trying my every other week attempt to use scanners. First time this has happened, bells go off Avast aborts connection due to BOT infection detected at Hamrick ??

Is anyone else seeing this????

It's only happening when I try to go to Hamrick website. Existing version of VueScan is running fine but if I try to go to Hamrick it Avast slams it down. Only happens with Windows, not Android.

Beats me. Probably Avast trying to get me to upgrade. Android works perfectly. I just don't use my PCs enough, whenever I turn them on Microsoft tries to takeover.

They'll let anyone provide internet service in the US. I will figure it out. Good news is my Nikon Coolscan 9000 runs fine with the current version.

Solution to the problem is probably my paying attention. I despise sitting at a computer.

This isn't the first time Vuescan updates have been blocked by various anti-virus products. I just won't worry about it for now. Machine still works. I should buy Apple

Delete Avast. It does nothing that Windows is not already doing - except apparently annoying you.

If you're not frequenting porn sites or downloading pirated software (or random crappy software from spurious sites), you don't need additional antivirus.

I use Google on my Android pads, but Microsoft Edge does battle with Google Chrome on my PCs. I think you're right about Avast.

You could try to turn off Avast before going to website to download latest version of Vuescan; then install the latest Vuescan; then finally reactivate Avast.

Yes, I will try to sit down and get this done. I think biggest issue is I won't turn the machine on for a couple weeks. When I come back it takes time for windows etc to update etc.
I've never had Avast shut me out of Hamrick software.

False flags are something that happens with AV software.

I'll second the opinion of that you don't need 3rd party AV software - it's just an additional layer of pain for no gain. Uninstall it, possibly via Revo Uninstaller (a Windows utility that uninstalls cleaner).

And yes, Windows updates quite often and considering their ever increasing creepiness towards my data and quite forceful attempts at making me create a MS account and use their second class products + that preinstalled bloat, tracking and adware - I'm on my last days on Windows it seems and will be trying out Linux.

Enough is enough.

Yeah, I can confirm. It's likely a false positive. I've submitted it as such; Avast has a form for it: https://www.avast.com/report-false-positive

You can temporarily turn off the Avast shields to work around the problem by clicking the Avast icon in the system tray area on Windows:

Avast can be a little touchy sometimes.

Whether or not 3rd party AV is required/smart etc. I'll leave that to anyone to decide for themselves. Likewise, choice of operating system, browser etc. are personal choices. From a moderator perspective, we may cut such discussions short here on Photrio as they generally don't go anywhere but the ugly underbelly of online human (mis)behavior.

Well Sir, you're report to Avast seems to have fixed the problem. No issues this morning! I've got to go fire up my mini tower and my scanners later today.

I still maintain there's no better way to store images than on film

Both PCs are running great ! Coolscan 9000 works great but is Slow. I see why DSLR "scanning" is so popular. I try to stay at least 15 years behind

Considering that scanning takes time, it's a nice place to start weeding out your pics so that the good ones aren't obscured by average and bad.

I scan only the better frames and even then I'll delete some scans and discard original slides over time (via many revisits) to have best of the best on hand, keeping the number of slides limited.
