Anyone notice that Fuji Superia 800 has been hard to find lately? I remember when Kodak Max 800 was switched to single use cameras only. Anyone know what's going on with the Fuji?
Is exactly what I'm working on now!I have noticed that yes. I was told by my local (and surprisingly film-stocking) camera store that it was "on back-odder". They were happy to sell me some Portra 800 instead. It's a shame -- I wanted to do a direct comparison of the two.
They certainly used to. It's hit or miss now.I think Walmart still sells it.
I recall there was some confusion around the Fujicolor 200 because they are sold along each other. Superia 200 in Europe is a decent midrange consumer film, sometimes not much more expensive than FUjicolor 200 (c200)Well, I may have my answer now to why Fuji Superia 800 is hard to find lately.
I was reading Zorki Photo blog. Dead Link Removed
Looks like not only is Superia 200 being discontinued (Superia 100 already was years ago), but the 800 and 1600 are also being discontinued apparently.
That leaves Fujicolor 200 (non-Superia version) and Superia 400 (but only in 36-exp. rolls for this one) as the only Fuji non-pro C-41 films. Fuji 800 is/was one of my go-to films, and I shoot a roll of Superia 1600 here and there every so often.
Imho, if this is really happening, Kodak should consider re-commissioning Max 800 for sale outside of single-use cameras once again.
As for Superia 200: to be fair, I haven't seen it for years...I've been using the plain Fujicolor 200 that comes in 4-packs.
I am bummed about losing the Superia 1600...but if Natura 1600 stays in production, which is essentially the same (or better) and remains available via Amazon in the US, it will be ok.
