I thought that it may be informative to newcomers to outline what these weekends are all about.

These bi-annual meetings were started about four years ago to allow us to meet those with whom we had conversed through the medium of this forum. We wanted to put faces to names, and see each others pictures in the hand as opposed to second-rate facsimiles on screen, to discuss and learn from each other, and that’s always easier when face to face. The quiet periods between getting out of bed, and the bar opening are usually filled with attempts at picture making; with varying degrees of success.

The first meeting was obviously successful, despite some horrendous weather, because we arrange another immediately after, for the following autumn, and they have continued since.

It was thought reasonable that we should move the venue around the country, and for a different member to take the lead in organising the meeting and accommodation selection. This has been a successful format that has worked well so far. We have also been fortunate in that we have often enjoyed the expertise of a local members knowledge to guide us to photogenic locations in the chosen areas.

As for attendance, the meeting are open to all those that frequent this APUG forum together with their partners, and not just UK residents either, for we have enjoyed meeting APUG visitors from foreign parts in the past. It is not obligatory to attend for the entire weekend, although most do. If you happen to be in our locality for an hour, or two feel free to look us up. Some of us like to make a long weekend out of it, if only to make a long journey worthwhile, others have been happy to attend for an afternoon or evening.

Analogue photography is the spoken language at these gatherings, so, if you are able to, make the effort to attend and join in, I doubt you will regret it.

Tow rope? Barry what do you know about Anglesey that I've missed?
The date poll has closed, so it looks like we have chosen the weekend 4/5th October next.
Has anyone spotted any other venues worth investigating, it looks like only two of those listed so far contain enough (20 ish) rooms, or have I missed something?

I thought Barry did a brilliant job of the weather in April

We had rain, snow, wind, overcast, bright sun, patchy sun, more wind & some or all of these at the same time

If the light wasn't right for a shot - then wait & within 30mins you had what you wanted

The tow rope is a good idea though

One largish hotel, under relatively new management I'm told, is the Carreg Mon ... Dead Link Removed

Just on the island and just off the bridge. 29 bedrooms, all of which have something called a TV, whatever that is.

It may well have to be that one. I found The Bull Hotel in Llangefni which is in the middle of the island and has 22 rooms, but it seems to be well booked for the period we want. I've emailed a couple of others to inquire about tariffs which they seem shy of publishing; never a good sign.

I've had a reply from the Carreg Mon Hotel (see previous) saying that they have availability for the 3rd/4th, Fri/Sat October, and that if 10 or more rooms are booked (individually, but quoting a group name) a 10% discount should be available for B&B. They recommend booking in July, no later.

Have a gander at the website.

That sounds promising Sandeha. The discount will bring their room rates into line with what we have paid in previous years. Anyone else any thoughts, suggestions, or objections before we decide to go for this venue?

Well the Hotel looks fine to me, and the half board option doesn't look bad either. At £72 bed, breakfast and evening meal for a single, that's quite a bit cheaper that Kent, so it we get a 10% discount all the better.

Only down side: cocktails! What happened to good old fashioned ale? :D

I'm still here!

I'm afraid I'm just lurking at the moment (life is full), but I haven't missed one of these do's yet and am not intending to start now.

No objections from me as it looks excellent - with a view and with the further possibility of 10% off !

Funnily enough, as I was driving back from Llandrindod this afternoon, I spotted a certain large black BMW, reg *** CAX.

Fortunately this time, she was driving in the opposite direction. :D

The Hotel looks fine with me

Would we do the Dinner, B & B option option?

Has anyone any prior knowledge of the area for photographic opertunities

Les was a great local guide for Northumberland - and someone similar to guide us would be a great benifit

I wish not to get lost over there... I would find myself in a tricky situation to articulate the address of the hotel: Ffordd Caergybi, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Gwynedd LL61 5YH
