Yes this is a Canon. In the "Canon Compendium," the author, Bob Shell, guesses that the camera was originally designed to be a leaf-shutter 35mm SLR. When Canon had engineering problems, they dropped the leaf-shutter and went with a focal plane shutter. Makes sense when you consider the awkward interchangeable lens system used on the camera. There were four lenses available. A 35mm, 50mm, 95mm and 125mm. BTW, there are a few EX-EE lenses up on eBay right now.
