I would like to see if we can get a group together and have a shoot sometime downtown or around the lake. If there are any Austin Area apugers that would like to meet -- Let me know and I will see if we can get some of the Austin area alternative photography people in on this too.

Gee -- If I still lived in Manor I would be more than happy to join you. My wife and I miss that area, but will never move back(she cant take the heat). Some of our favorite places are Zilker Park, and the nature and science center, the Botanical gardens, South Congress(the culture is definitly our style)and, well, anywhere in downtown. Hey- is Leslie still squatting at 6th and Congress? He was always a sourch of entertainment. Good shooting and post your pix for us.

Jeff, I live in south Austin just off of Ben White. Would love to put together a meet up. I am also a (fairly) regular attendee of the Austin Alt Photo Group as well.

If y'all would go east a bit, and my schedule permitted, a few of us from Cypress-Houston-Katy would like to meet fellow APUGers.

East is farther from me and the other SATX APUGers but there are probably more there in Houston.

Sorry Mike. I wasn't sure where Converse is. A few weeks ago, the Saturday it rained 40 days & 40 nights, some Texas Photo Forum members from S.A. met us in Luling for lunch. After lunch we split up. The vehicle I was in stayed under the rain cloud all afternoon north to the New Sweden Church and back to Houston via Elgin & Giddings. The other vehicle stayed closer to I-10 and dry all afternoon. Go figure.

Yeah that's the way it goes sometimes, Wayne. Was it the Charlie Brown series with a character who had a rain cloud perpetually over his head?

My wife and I plan to visit Austin in Jan, and try to visit San Antonio.
We are hoping to spend 4 or 5 days in the area. It would be great to hear of interesting areas to visit in the area.

Bob, I'm a northerner (ME, Quebec, MA) stuck in Austin except when traveling, which is frequent. What brings you to Austin and what would you like to see? There are hill country wineries > 100; funky roadhouses; fine restaurants; elegant shopping; early spanish missions in San Antonio; ranch country west of Austin; impressive turn of the century county courthouses; etc. Austin is a young and modern city and contrasts greatly from the outlying old TX towns. If you need a free place to stay I think I'll be here during some of Jan. Shoot me a PM on the LF forum if you so desire - I don't spend much time on APUG.

Hi Nathan
I have been to Austin three or four times, In my younger days I played competitive fastball and we spent a few weeks in Austin playing tournaments in Austin against Texas fast ball teams.
I have a old friend who use to live in the area and if I was to be stuck in any area other than Ontario, Austin , San Antonio would be my choice.
I promised my wife a trip to the area and meeting a few photographers in the area would be great.
Laura and I have been photographing Ontario Region , landscape , urban and rural for a few years now and we want to continue the theme but with a southern twist. We travel with our dogs and basically move day to day with no restraints , finding a cheap hotel that is dog friendly seems to be no problem for us as we have travelled well in the States this way.

This trip includes stops in Kentucky, Texas, and then to Georgia , South and North Carolina. If we get lucky and are not exhausted we also would like to visit the USA capital.
Our interest seems to be more about day to day lifestyle in the areas we visit and tend to spend more time trying to find a great place to have a nice meal at the end of the day , with a clean room to lay our heads down and hook up a hibatchi to cook our normal meals and stay for a few days to explore the area.
I would really like to see a ranch and maybe document this culture which is so foreign to me as the closest I get to this type of envioronment is to visit the Royal Winter Fair.
Maybe I have watched too many John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies but a working ranch would be outstanding to visit.
thanks for the offer and I hope we can hook up. I imagine we will be in your area for New Years and the first week of Jan.
regards
Bob

Once again I ask the moderators to banish Dinesh.

To answer your question d ... wad, no I was not the only token male, Fastball is a game that requires immense talent and skill, not like that little game of rugby you play , and we all know why you like rolling around in the mud with a bunch of other fellows.

Were you the token "male" on the team?

You two boys behave yourselves. If you can't get along I'll turn this car around and head back home. Do you two want to be separated?!

Dinesh is actually one of the ugliest people on earth, there is no possible way I would be in the back seat of the car with him, all the pointing fingers would be to embarrasing for me.

He was separated at birth , his other half is in some Zoo in Argentina.

Theres absolutely NOTHING in Austin or San Antonio to visit much less photograph, I've been here for 8 yrs and haven't found a thing worthy.

Call/email me as it gets sooner and while you are here we'll commiserate over a beer about no where to photograph.

Dear Sir
When I mentioned that Dinesh was ONE of the ugliest , I forgot to mention you were the other.
I am sorry I will not be able to take this conversation further as I am not well versed in your mother tongue Moronica.

I'm not ready to capitulate that Carnie is male, let alone enough of one to represent the rest of us as a token.

Bob, this place is worth the visit. Good food and very scenic area. Your wife will be pleased with you for many days. Reservations are a good idea. Allow 2 hours for your meal. http://www.trattorialisina.com/ If you are interested in other ideas in the area, let me know. Scooterman should be able to show you around some of the best. There may not be much to photograph in the area, however he sets his tripod up in some pretty interetsing places. Bill Barber

resurrecting this old thread

Any interest in setting up a Central TX meetup? We could plan for something once it starts to cool off a bit...

I'm in Austin and would definitely try to attend. I would be just as interested in a meeting where we share and show prints as I would be in a meetup to shoot.

I'm a current member of ACP and try to get out to the HRC as often as possible. Would like to do a meet that's more informal.
