For Sale Atlanta HC-110, Free!

Howdy!

I have two opened bottles of HC-110 syrup, both almost completely full, one's a few years old and the other is about a year old. Looks to be perfectly fine, and given the awesome shelf life, I'd like to find it a good home. (XTOL and I have become good friends, and I'm trying to overcome the developer du jour syndrome.)

Atlanta pickup at my house or studio. First two people get one each. If I only get one taker, (s)he can have them both.

Maybe you should use it yourself? The stuff lasts for years opened. I like to use it with Arista EDU films. It's a beautiful combination. Why give it away? It's Ansel Adam's favorite developer!

My favorite developer too. I like it with Delta 3200 @6400 Dil.B @16min 75F. It is also great in lower dilutions for slower films. My latest Adox and Pan F, I did Dil.F @10min 68F. Using just 6ml of syrup per roll a bottle goes a long way. I also add marbles to the bottle as I use it, I had a bottle smell funny after I didn't use it for a while.

Hi jaybob. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no need for marbles to reduce oxidation. I think because the developer concentrate is in a suspension of glycerol, it resist oxidation. I used a partially full bottle where the concentrate turned dark and it was still good. At one time, I used it replenished and negs looked even better. It's really versatile developer. I've processed film from the concentrate in dilution B and up to 1:100 dilution for stand development for an hour.

Hey Mainecoon,

I really like the true film speed and easy workflow with the XTOL. Mix 5L, put it all into 500mL bottles, mix 1:2, use it and dump it. It works very nicely for me.

As I said, I tended to jump around developers over the years, and I wanted to really lock in on one developer, to go along with my one camera/one lens philosophy, and only 2 films: FP4 and HP5.

I use XTOL too and it is an amazing developer. The developer gives a softer look than HC-110. A friend is a friend!

I use HC110 exclusively myself, so there may be some bias to consider here.

If I were in your shoes, I would keep the HC-110 as emergency backup - for one of those emergency situations where the X-Tol isn't available for some reason.

Also, a small amount of HC-110 concentrate in a small bottle travels well, in case you want to take your developing kit "on the road".

Congrats - wish I had remembered you had it before I ordered some recently, but I have an unopened bottle I'm not sure I'll like anyway, so I wasn't going to go for this.

I jump around a bit, but really just T-Max and D76 with Diafine for its special magic. I like Diafine for Tri-X in low light that isn't so low it demands TMZ or Delta 3200, and for taming highlight contrast in some light, or with Pan F+. That makes a great combination when EI 64 will do, but that's not much of my shooting.

I just wanted to try HC110 while I still could. Trying to talk myself into spending the money for a box of 4x5 TXP too, since Ansel and many others have loved that combo. I'm getting toward the end of my stock of TMY-2 and Kodak sheet film is so much more expensive than Ilford I'm very tempted to just move to all Ilford (and some occasional Foma just for fun.)
