I got a used ATL 3 over the winter and I am just now finally getting it running. It is the tabletop model 4172. I had plumbing put in for a Leedal tempering system and that is now working fine so I am now firing up the machine. Here are a few questions. There will likely be a lot more.

1) I filled up the tempering bath yesterday and discovered that the drain leaks a little. It is not horrible, but I would like to get it fixed. If I just put a plug in there, is that going to cause problems? Should I try to fix the original instead ?

2) I figured out how to program the machine and I am all ready for a quick test run, but I don't think I understand the "Fill Quantity Dial." When I programmed the machine, I set the chemical quantity to 1 litre. Do I just set that same amount on the "Fill Quantity Dial"? It seems redundant. What exactly does it do?

1),
Try to clean the original plug carefully. If this is not possible you could use a common plug without problems. Only the automatic draining mechanism will be lost.

2),
No, you set the amount of (minimum) fill quantity you need for the process and drum. Please read the manual in section 4.4 “Entering the Tempered Chemistry Amount” and 5.1 “Filling Quantity Selection”. That should shed some light on your question.

Thanks again, nigma. I understand the fill quantity now. With regard to the plug, how do I get at it? What has to be removed for me to be able to work with that plug?

Regarding plug accessibility, you could remove bottle 1 to access the sink. I think that will be the easiest way. Other ways you have to remove the bottle cover plate, which is more complicated.
Or you can ask Catlabs for a spare plug, more expensive but the best choice.
