I went browsing at the KEH website as I sometimes do, and discovered they're nearly out of the things I was interested in (some unnamed MF camera gear...dum de dum de dum...). But I realized that people must be getting the stuff they're running out of for Christmas, not that they're not getting goods to sell. Did anyone miss out this year? I wonder how long it will take for the shelves to fill up again. Hmmmmm...

Heh, maybe they have a warehouse full they haven't sorted yet. Over the past several months I received several emails from them saying they were going to be at events in various places, Philly and NYC among them as I recall. They were suggesting I should bring in the stuff I wasn't using. It would be ironic if the decay of cameras from aging combined with increasing demand for film cameras reached a point where used equipment dealers had trouble staying in business because no one wanted to let go of their cameras! I reckon some entrepreneur would fill that gap pretty quickly though.

They had two men and computers at the Richfield, OH (south of Cleveland) swap meet earlier this month. I thought they were just selling and preferred to talk with the local vendors who had stock to see and touch, but they may also have been gathering.

The KEH guys were buying, but not finding much. They didn't have anything to sell.

KEH sends people out to local dealers out all over the country to buy used gear in large batches at a discount. I was once in the local 'pro' shop at about a 3 month interval. On the first visit they had a decent stock of used gear that wasn't selling. On the second visit KEH had come through and bought every used piece in the store (my guess would be for not much more than the store had into it in the first place).

KEH bought out almost all the used Hasselblad equipment at Bel Air Camera. Sherman's march to the sea was not that thorough!

Ha! Speak of the devil. You jinxed me! I had a Nikon lens sitting there all ready to buy and poof! Today it vanished. The KEH guys must be paying you to drum up business!

Looks like I finally did something right and on time.... My "unnamed MF gear" from KEH will be delievered tomorrow. And yes, several items "disappeared " from their site this past week.

Mamiya? Rollei? Bronica? Hasselblad?

Alas, , I was only browsing perchance to dream. From what I have observed so far, drumming up business is the last thing KEH needs to do. Rather, finding more gear to sell is likely their top priority, and "rats" to that! They seem bent on cornering the market by garnering all the available stock which is great for them and sucky for we who can only afford to wish. Time to bid farewell to analog firesale bargains. They seem to be history.

Sirius: Hasselblad. Couldn't afford one in my youth when they were new.... Now as an old fart I can finally afford a used one. Oh, wasn't really into MF then either. But I've really been enjoying an Autocord lately and wanted to "expand." I'm not getting any younger and figured what the h___.

Looks like your signature line is correct.

I think people are reading way to much into this...

If you are willing to ship internationally you can get a lot more money for your gear on ebay than selling to KEH or any other used gear retailer.

I think a lot more people are going that route and that leaves less available for KEH.

Let's also keep in mind that the bix exodus out of MF film gear by professionals occurred 4-5 years ago and that swell of inventory had to work its way out of the market sooner or later.

I've always found KEH's inventory to get a bit depleted towards the end of the holiday season, anyhow.
