I wanted to know if anyone is aware that even for the asahi pentax s2/h2 there is the hidden notch for the 1/1000 speed as for other pentax asahi of the same series?
I've just checked on my S2 and after 1/500 sec the next stop on the shutter speed dial is for T exposure then B then 1 second and all of the increased shutter speeds up to 1/500 sec.
I have heard of the unmarked 1/1000 sec on other M42 Pentax bodies such as the Spotmatic SP500 but I don't know about others.

For what it's worth, while at corporate Honeywell (who distributed Pentax in the US), the "story" was that the Pentax SP500 had a 1/1000 shutter from previous Spotmatics. It was cheaper to produce a single shutter with a 1/1000 speed than an entirely new shutter. The SP500 lacked the markings and detent for 1/1000. .
I tested my S1a for this, at 1/500th only 3/4 of the frame was exposed, at the 'hidden' 1/1000th only half of it was exposed. Obviously there's a problem at 1/500th but the hidden speed is obviously faster.
