My heart skipped a beat when I saw the behind-the-counter display of film for sale, including large format!
I was there a month ago and I have to say that I was glad of the long wait in line so I could browse that wall in more detail (nearly everyone, mostly young, were picking up or dropping off film or buying film). The adjoining wall has a huge collage of old film cameras, I hope they’re all up there because they were unrepairable! Even here in Japan the film sections seem to get smaller, although they also seem to be out of stock every time I go, so maybe it’s because sales are up.
Also, at Downtown Camera in the darkroom section I had a nice chat with one of the employees there, a nice contrast to 2005-6 when I was living in Toronto and taking a darkroom course at Ryerson - that section was the no-go zone where it was a struggle to get anyone to help me. Being there made me realize how much film photography has come back over the past decade, when most people had given up on it.
