There is a huge difference between the regional wars of the last half century and global world war.

There have been a string of extremely intenese and hostile military confrontantions between Russia and NATO in the past few months. This is especially the case in the Baltic region. It has several NATO members who actually or factually belonged to the Soviet Union. They are very nervous.

Basically, Russia no longer follows protocols on peace time military encounters. Their forces act as if at war, short of firing.

Like Germany after WWI, Russia has never accepted its defeat in the Cold War.

Some people here still live in a past century - not only in regard to photography....

I killed and ate a stranger on the streets of Seattle only yesterday. Tasted like chicken.

In the spirit of Warren Zevon...

How was the stranger's hair?

This instantly reminded me of the scene in the Gold Rush where "Big Jim" thinks Charlie's a chicken and chases him with an axe

Taken at face value and as described above this is a horrific scene that we ought not to show to children and yet as acted out in the Gold Rush it is hilarious and in my opinion perfectly acceptable to show to children who see it as harmless comedy which it is.

Seems like the Yukon has moved South these days

Incompetent psychopaths make good television but bad reality.

Yes. Russia has rewound the tape to 1985 and rebooted the cold war. Look it up. The information is out there.

You should prefer the incompetent psychopaths.

The competent ones are much more dangerous.

Spoke to my stepbrother over the past week, he's certain we can send people to Mars... there's just no plan to bring them back.

I heard that too. The technology to fly to Mars and land safely exists. But presumably, it's too difficult and expensive to build a return vehicle and bring it to Mars.

My opinion is that if people were able to do something in the past, they should be able to do it in the future.

Obviously things like material supply and economy of scale have a bearing on the practicality, but it should still be possible.
.

They are still trying to understand how ancient man...
  • could have suspended canvas covers over ancient coliseums
  • could have moved really large heavy stones hundreds of miles (Stonehenge, Easter Is.)
  • could have lifted really large heavy stones to stack them (Stonehenge)
  • could have constructed the huge classic cathedrals in short periods of time (Chartre)

...it is 'possible', but HOW did they do it with ancient technology?! There are theories, but experiments often show the theories to be impractical.

Nope. You married Into the family freely.

Now, if your wife wants to send her sister, well then there's an argument.

How do you know his brother didn't marry into her family ?

Well, isn't that about the same difference?

Not his choice though.
I have no say to whom my sister marries (although my mum thinks that she does ).
