Was browsing about and came across British born photographer Arthur Samuel Mole's photographs made 91 years ago using an 11x14" camera. He used 25,000 US soldiers in formation to make enormous portraits of famous people, symbols, and places:
In the photographs you can see how he took perspective into account with the density of people increasing further from the camera to keep the proportions of the image correct.
