Hi everyone,
I have this camera coming my way. The shutter is not working. Has anyone here any experience of repairing the shutters on these old cameras?. I have an Ensign Ranger II that I managed to remove the lenses from for cleaning, but I have no idea how to get to the shutter housing. The camera is in immaculate condition for its 1932=34 age and I would love to get it working so I can use it. I see on the web that there are reversible fixes to get it to take 12 film. So I would really love to hear from anyone with any pointers.
One note. it looks like the camera broke very early on in its life, so I have a feeling its not due to any build up of gunge on the shutter blades. Maybe a leaf spring popped out or something.

Hi Mogsby.

My that camera looks familiar.

index.php

If that is the manual for it, I would really appreciate a scan of a photocopy.

I got mine almost 50 years ago. My Dad had the camera technicians at the Kodak lab he worked at service it. He then gave it to me for my 11th birthday, along with everything necessary to start developing film and making contact prints.

Mine still works, although using it with 120 film is quite finicky.

I've got a few really old rolls of 616 film that I'm going to try in it.

Mine is manufactured in Canada. The identification plate on the inside of the fold down front plate will tell you where yours is made.

Have fun with your camera!

Hi Matt,
You are welcome to a copy of the manual, it is in French, so the seller tells me. Hopefully the camera will be here Wednesday or Thursday, depends how quick Royal Mail are.
I've not looked for old 616 film yet, I will do if I get the shutter working.
I'll be in touch about the manual :
Cheers.

Hi Matt,
The camera arrived today and I have honestly spent all day working on it. Some of the leatherette was peeling, not sure if its leather or plastic just smells of old people , so I used UHU glue to stick it back. Cleaned the lenses, but they were pretty much A1 tbh. I managed to get the shutter working, one of the levers inside was bent to buggery. I'm not sure if it acting right with the shutter speeds. 10th sec seems to stick and no real change in 100th down to 25th. I spent this evening modding a take up reel and that seems to be ok. Not sure if I want to re roll so am thinking of a way round that, plus I cannot find another 616 reel any where on the net. I also need to make a mask of some type.
The manual is with it, in French and has been trimmed to fit into the leather case . I can scan it if you want. Will take me a while as its 30 some pages and I don't want to remove the staples, they are rusted badly.
PS! how do I PM people on here?.
Mick

Mick:

They are called "Conversations" now. Click on my name (below my avatar) and you will see a box with "Start a Conversation" in it. Click there and go!

Send me an address, and I'll see if I can get a 616 spool to you.
