HELP! I'm trying to get my enlarger connected. I have a 5x7 Aristo cold light head on an Omega E6 enlarger. It came with two black boxes. One is an "Aristo Contactor." I read that this is something that protects the timer from the "indutive load" of the cold light head, but there is also another black box that came with it. It says on the bottom that it is a Vivitar TC-110 Power Supply. I am not sure what it does. Do I even need it? When I plug the enlarger into the Vivitar box and then plug that into the wall outlet, nothing happens. When I plug the cold light into the contactor and the contactor into to the wall outlet, it comes on. When it comes on, the cold light then has a loud hum. I'm not sure I like the sound of it. I am very new to this and there isn't much info out there on this old equipment.

First plug the light directly into an outlet without the contactor and see if it still has the hum. I can't see any use for the Vivitar power supply with the Aristo. Especially since the light works Ok without it. Does the light have a second power cord for an internal heater? Most newer models will have the heater.

hi vintagerollei

you might contact voltarc and ask them. there is
still someone there who may be able to answer questions
about your light source.

as chuckp suggests there should be 2 cords, even my old graflarger back even had 2 cords
( 1=heater to heat up the tube & 1 for the bulb ) and my modern aristo lights also have 2 cords ..

the contactor is probably there because sometimes people have old timers that can damage the light source
and it it is like a buffer ... not sure what the vivitar cord is ...
