I shot a roll of the former and was surprised by the higher contrast (Rodinal 1+50). However, some internet comments are that the Fomapan Creative 200 is a low contrast film. If they are the same film, I can rely on what I have shot/developed myself, and not worry about the "low contrast" comment. Thanks!
I don't know who said that or what they mean by it - it's an odd qualification in any case. For what it's worth: Fomapan 200 builds contrast extremely easily. It needs significantly less development to reach the same gamma as many other films, such as Fomapan 100.
Yes, it's just the full name. Fomapan "Classic" 100, "Creative" 200, "Action" 400.
Foma doesn't publish curves for rodinal/R09, but you can see on the datasheet that in most developers it won't reach ISO 200. A lot of bad films reviews out there jumping to conclusion about the "backed in" contrast of a film stock by underexposing the shots (typical with foma, rollei retro..) and too much/not enough development.
I've shot a lot of Fomapan 100 & 200, they have quite a high inherent contrast that needs taming. Better to reduce the EI a by a stop and reduce development, do this and they are great films.

About what percentage of development time would you cut to do the reduction. Other than an unwanted high contrast, are the box speeds okay for the basic exposure. I shot Fomapan 400 and EI200 once and many shots seemed overexposed. Thanks!
Somewhere around 30%, I did some tests with a couple of rolls of 120 Fomapan 200 15 or 16 years ago and found it was best at 100EI 12 mins @ 20º Pyrocat HD 1+1 to 100, Delta 100, 400, & HP5 I develop for 17 mins (that's actually 29% less for the Foma).

So the benefit of the reduction is to minimize/eliminate overexposure and to reduce the contrast. Also, I should have asked are you taking the 30 percent off the MDC development time for developing at the the box speed? Thanks!
