I'm looking for some starting times to develop the "old" arista.edu 400 film with pyrocat-hd using "normal" agitation - which for me is 10 seconds agitation every minute. This will be tray or tube development (4X5 negatives). I've forgotten what film these are re-branded from. Possibly Ilford HP-5+, but I think it was one of the east European brands. I have about 25 of these negatives to develope.

I also recently bought some of the "new" arista.edu.ultra, 100 and 200, and if anyone has any experience developing these with "normal" agitation with Pyrocat-HD, I'd also like some starting times for these. I believe these are Fomapan films. I haven't used this film yet.

I have looked at Freestyle's site and the Massive Development Chart, and searched the threads here. All of the information I've been able to find has to do with either continuous agitation or stand development or other developers, although the information I'm looking for is probably buried there somewhere!

Trying to extrapolate from other films and other agitations, I'm leaning towards trying 13 - 14 minutes at 68 degrees for the arista.edu 400.

I'd be grateful for the benefit of anyone's experience or suggestions for development times.

I think the old arista.edu was Forte. Last time I had some of the same 8x10 sheet film, I used 12 minutes on a roller base for the film. I also rated it EI=200. I'd be interested in your opinion of the FOMA film as I getting in the mood to experiment again

The Arista film is definitely not HP5. Actually, my tests have shown that it is not even close. This film is about twice as grainy as HP5 with about half the resolution. I tested several rolls of 120 in studio lighting. I processed it in PMK. (I think development was 13 minutes).I matched Dmax,Dmin to HP5 shot and processed under the same lighting conditions. The difference was considerable. Next to the HP5, the film pretty much fell apart. I found it to be unusable for my taste. Not even able to enlarge it to 11x14 without significant grain, lower contrast, and resolution.
I have heard several people refer to this film as repackaged HP5. I wish it were true, but it is a myth. Its characteristics are nowhere near that of HP5

Sorry, just had to get that straight. However, to your original question.: Although, I did not test any LF film, I found that the Arista 120 in PMK needed the same development time as the HP5. I tray process HP5 for 13 minutes. Theoretically, the Pyrocat should be about 70% of that or 9 minutes. I would start there.

I just posted a couple of pictures in the Standard Gallery using the old Arista.edu developed in Pyrocat-HD for 14 minutes at 68 degrees. "Normal" agitation as I defined it earlier. Might be a bit long, but I'm very happy with the results.
