Arista Edu 400

Is anyone currently using Arista Edu Ultra 400 in 120? Your thoughts? I haven't used it for quite some time and am wondering if the handling qualities have improved.

Haven't used Edu 400 in about a year since I really wasn't happy with the speed or the occasional scratches. However, I have been using 120 Edu 200 in RO9 with pretty good results. It's not Tmax but it does give predictable and clean results.

I've been using Edu 200 also. Like it lots. Just thought I would try some 400, but remember it was kind of problematic.

I've shot one roll so far, and liked the results. I exposed at EI 200 and developed in D76 1+1 for the recommended time. No scratches or handling problems but one roll is hardly a sample.

I bought a few rolls of this for my girlfriend to use in her box camera, and it doesn't curl as much as it used to, and has a lovely grain, especially in PMK Pyro. In Xtol it's obviously much smoother. Both looks are worthwhile, and the prints look fantastic from it.

I bought 20 rolls of Arista EDU 400 and used half of it. It's good stuff. I soup it in Xtol or HC-110. I don't like to use it for long exposures because of reciprocity effects. Take a look at this.

I love that film. I use Arista Premium Liquid (Clayton F76+) or HC-110 and I am very happy with the results.

Are you exposing it at EI 200, or box speed?

Hmm, I like this thread. Got me thinking.

Hey Thomas, would you say the films are comparable to Acros or Neopan in Pyro? I am almost out of my 400 speed 120 film and need a solid replacement.

No. They are not similar, especially with regard to highlight contrast. Nothing is quite like Neo 400, but I would look to Tri-X first and work out a solid technique with it.

I actually expose it at 160. Not only is it more like an ISO 200 film, but replenished Xtol loses about 1/2 stop compared to Xtol 1+1, so 160 gives me adequate shadow detail for normal contrast. In high contrast I expose it at 100, and low contrast at 320-400, and then I obviously adjust developing time accordingly, so that I can fit the negatives to the paper I use.
