Argo colors

Hi All,

I've just watched a movie called Argo recently and I really liked the look of the movie. Wonderful colors, a little bit retro feeling. Regarding the imdb.com the movie was shot to half frame to increase grain.

I really liked the colors of the outdoor scenes. Do you have an idea what kind of film was used? What kind of filters should I use to achieve that colors?

Photography is quite a new hobby for me. After shooting film about less then half year, I watch even the movies with a different eye!

Thus 4 different emulsions were used plus 3 different frame sizes. (Plus digital sensors)

And we don't know even what took place in postproduction...




"Half frame" is designation from still photography. It means 18x24mm in contrast to the standard 35mm format 24x36mm.

In the cine-world the area reduction when reducing film formats is even greater.

Portra 400 is supposed to be very similar to 500T, or you can get the real thing rolled into 135 canisters:

For retro looking colour, I've seen people shoot colour film with a light yellow filter.
