I'm new to LF. I am trying to put a good value kit together and as a result have a selction of mis-matched pieces. I've got a Toyo 5x4 View camera  and a Nikon 210mm W  in a Sinar aperture mount  . I want to get the Nikon into a shutter, most likely Copal. Does it matter which Copal  Most seem to be set in a Copal 1. Any reason behind this?
thanks

I think the front and back lens cells should be identical regardless of whether they are in the Sinar mount or a Copal shutter. The 210 Nikkor W I have is in a Copal 1. If you purchase a new Copal shutter separate from a lens, it will not have an aperture scale marked for your particular lens, as this shutter is used on a wide variety of lenses. So you will gain a shutter, but loose your aperture marks unless you have an aperture scale custom made.

It matters because it only threads into the right size.

A 210 could be made to fit any thing from a #0 to a #3. A lens made to fit a #0 would tend to be smaller and with a slower wide open aperture. One made for the a #3 would be the other end of the extreme. Bigger and faster. A #1 is in between.

I think the Nikon 200m was in a #0. Go to the Nikon Europe website and compare the specs. I bet it's lighter, smaller and slower then the 210.

I was in a similar position, with a Rodenstock that I put into a Copal shutter. A new shutter will probably not have an aperture scale. A used shutter will probably have the wrong one. Robert White in the UK were able to get the right sort of aperture scale for me from Rodenstock in a few weeks. The scales just attach to the rim of the shutter with a couple of little screws - very easily done.
