Are Artists Misfits ?

Armstrong Jones was a commoner (upper middle class) and not a toff. He married into the aristocracy.
How much of a "commoner" can you be when your mother is the Countess Of Rosse ?.

She didn't get that title until her second marriage which was after AAJ was born. AAJ had no title until the Queen gave him one after he married her sister.

I can hear their defence in court, "But your honour, I'm a practicing shoplifting artist so it doesn't count as theft"

I begin to think that a lot of artists never reached adolescence and are really children in adult bodies acting out child like fantasies.

I'm not sure if I'm an artist, but I'm definitely a misfit.

Steve.

I'm a bloody artistic misfit and damn proud of it... now get off of my lawn!!!!

I rekon this thread's got legs, goats legs.

Is that Kathe Kollwitz and if so what does it have to say about her. I class her as a real artist and not a misfit. But then again I know very little of her personal life.
I went to the permanent gallery exclusively of her work in Koln many years ago. I think its where I discovered what real art is for me. I even bought a cheap poster print of one of her very emotive works of a mother and child which is now framed and on my wall.

[edit]
ooops, I said Dusseldorf which is where I was working. The gallery is in Koln (Thats Cologne to Brits and maybe other English language countries). I changed it above.
And for anyone visiting Koln the gallery is right next Foto Gregor, a big camera shop with a LF section in the basement. At least there was when I was there which was before digital took off. I bought my Linhof in there. It turned into a a bloody expensive visit to an Art Gallery.

I think that all talented people have something strange for people around them. But it is so cool to be strange or to have such friends)
I would replace "talented people" with "thinking people". It seems anyone who thinks instead of knee-jerk-reacts-as-expected, is considered strange and dangerous.

There are misfits in all walks of life. I see no reason to single out "artists", however you decide to define that term.

For the benefit of our members who are not familiar with the English slang term 'Shoplifter', he/she is a thief who walks into a shop and steal goods from the stock.

Charles Dickens, the 19c Author of the Novel - 'Oliver', depicted one of Oliver's' partners in crime by calling him the 'Artful Dodger'. A simple street thief who was artful at not getting caught.
