If I use acid free rag paper can I honestly call prints from a 1400 archival? I recall differing opinions on this. (Dye ink vs pigment) Thanks...........Bob

The interaction of various inks and papers make this a complex question. You might find your answer at Dead Link Removed. There's much good information there.

As far as I know, there is no industry-standard that defines "archival." It doesn't really matter unless you are representing prints for sale; then I think you should disclose whether you are using dye or pigment inks. You can skip the "archival" label -- it really just marketing.

Thanks for the info. I checked the Wilhelm site and in the process stumbled upon an article that said basically what Phillip said, so whenever I get to selling prints I'll forego the somewhat ambiguous 'archival' label and just provide info as to paper & ink type and projected longevity of that combination.
