Julius Shulman comes to mind immediately - he shot a lot of iconic images of modernist buildings. There is a great documentary about him that I've yet to catch.
Can't go wrong looking to Shulman and Stoller. Working today? http://www.normanmcgrath.com/ is still active, I believe. He has a couple of how-to books that provide a good foundation for those who have the basics of photography mastered and want specialized knowledge about architectural photography.
