C,
The head will handle 45lbs! No problem at all. I use with an Arca Swiss field camera with up to a 450mm lens in #3 shutter. The f1 has such a large base though, that i would recommend the P1 instead of P0 as the plates for the P0
are very small. Rod
Mine weighs about 1.7 lb. and the rated capacity is 90 lb. Purchase used for about $100. Its actually the earlier version and called the Monoball, later called the B1. So its old and yet, works great.
I have the p0 which I use for my 35mm cameras. For a view camera you may want to look at the p1 which has a tension control setting and is aslo available with a double pan feature. Check out Precision Camera Works website for more info an Arca-Swill: Dead Link Removed
Am I reading this correct, that the p0 uses a different style of quick release plate then the p1? Whereas the p1 uses the traditional Arca quick release plates?
Galerie-photo.org, the reference large format photography website in french, has recently published a hands-on review of the p0 ballhead. To summarize it, the guy seems to be very happy with the p0 coupled with a light gitzo tripod, with various 4x5 inches view cameras on it. That isn't surprising, as AS seems to be rather conservative about charge capacity and as p0 is rated 20 kilos.
