Apparently, Arca-Swiss has stopped producing the Discovery. Does anyone know when this happened, and why the company has stopped offering this configuration? The dealer from whom I bought mine doesn't know why Arca-Swiss has stopped making it.

Thanks.

I guess they didn't sell many of these. People want a full-featured camera.

Also note that the Discovery is not part of the "new" Arca Swiss line with 141 x 141 mm lens boards, so it is bulkier than the current line of cameras. I guess it didn't make much business sense to continue production of the special parts for this camera.

You could contact them and tell them you would like to see an entry level model from Arca. On the other hand, you have your camera already, and I have no doubt they will continue supporting it.

The whole point of the Discovery is that it was an F-Line camera with most of the features of that line. Arca-Swiss is a modular system, and there was nothing "special" about the Discovery parts. For the same reason, Arca-Swiss could easily produce a 141mm Discovery. But apparently, they aren't going to.

The Discovery brought a lot of people to large format and to Arca-Swiss in particular. This amounts to a rejection of that marketing strategy. The question is, why the rejection? I can think of possible reasons, but my question is whether anyone knows the actual reason.

Give Mr Vogt a call and ask him.
