Is there a way?

Is there maybe a store in US that will ship powder chemicals to EU?

I'd like to try and see what all the Pyro fuzz is about!

if you are able to buy Fotospeed developers look for Presysol developer. It is a pyrocatechin based film developer.

I ordered Pyrocat-HD from Photographers Formulary http://www.photoformulary.com/DesktopDefault.aspx in powder form. Artcraft should be able to ship as well. I think they need to ship you a "kit", and not as separate chemicals. Won't be any difference for you, though :-D .

I suppose they could ship you PMK or some other pyro stuff the same way.

Photographers formulary sent the powdered chemicals in zip lock bags, something my chemist wife didn't like. The packet smelled and the catechol got a bit brown quite quickly (it worked fine though). If the mixing of dry chemicals isn't something you are interested in by itself, it seems better to order the glycol-version of Pyrocat-HD from Photographers formulary. That is what I will do when I run dry.
You might also consider Lotus Camera in Austria.

Pyrogallol is possible to get in Sweden, and the rest of the chemicals to make staining devs such as RAF pyro-metol (look in the Article section). I myself have enough problems even getting useable negatives with "normal" developers, so I'll save that pyro stuff for a hopefully brighter future!

Well, as you see from my posts here I have a few issues myself... that's why I feel I can try a few different things, as I don't have so much testing and calibration invested in one developer.

Tannol?

How about the "Tanol" product from Moersch? It is avaliable to me from Fotoimpex. Anyone who uses it?

I find it easier to order from Photographers formulary than from Fotoimpex, since Fotoimpex don't take credit cards and ship by DHL.

Do I need to switch to another fixer as well, like an alkaline one? I'm using Ilford Hypam rapid fixer (ammonium thiosulfate) right now. It's easily available and works for both film and paper.

Hypam fixer is OK.

I mix my own pyro-developers, having bought raw chemicals from VWR.

I have also bought this pyro-stuff, wondering what the fuzz was about.

I bought PMK and Tanol in Germany www.monochrome.com, which have both developers.

You can also buy Tanol directly from Moersch, at this link http://www.moersch-photochemie.de/. If you don't wont to mix you own alkaline fixer, Moersch has his ATS Schnellfixierbad Alkalisch, it works quite well.

Unfortunetely the site is only in Finnish, but you will find Pyrocat-HD under the link "Kehitteet". The instructions are also only in Finnish but any user of this forum will certainly find lots of processing information for Pyrocat.

Pyrocatechin is indeed in the Tanol from Moersch and it's staining. Also on 3% pyrocatechin based and 1% hydroquinon and working on a pH over 12 is AM50 from Amaloco the Netherlands. This developer is non-staining.
Moersch has tested his developer very extended with the Rollei PAN25 film. We also did with the AM50 and the same film.

Both we can strongly recommend:

The staining is no problem with a neutral fix like X89 (Amaloco) or the mentioned alkaline fix ATS from Moersch.
If your water is containing a lot of carbonates it's important to use demi-water for the Tanol which is used on 1+1+100.
Both (liquid) developers you can store over a pretty long time: 2-3 years is not a real problem.

Lotus View Camera in Austria sells Pyrocat, PMK and a few other staining developers (packaged better than the Formulary people... I know, I use both).

I have just received my first pack of Tanol to test. Wolfgang is easy to deal with, takes PayPal, and posts the most economical way for your destination.
