Don't worry; subbing technology has improved over the years and today's 5222 also uses modern subbing technology. It won't reticulate under the kind of conditions we're discussing here.

Resize it to 1000 pixels on the long dimension, and save it as a jpeg with lower than 100 quality.

And even if it would, just let the film in a single developing tank of water warm up closer to the wash temperature before you start the wash proper.
It is the rapid changes in temperature that are most concerning.
