I'm down to my last two rolls of APX 25 in 120 size. Rodinal used to be my dev of choice for this film, but small pieces of the emulsion are being removed somewhere along the line. Perhaps it's the films age; expired in '03, but has been frozen, and I'm not having this problem with any other film.

Anyway, I think a hardening/tanning dev should do the trick. I have Pyrocat HD all mixed up, but cannot find a time for APX 25. I use the 2+2+100 dilution for other films and it works well. I'm using a color head and VC paper.

Thanks, Jim

I doubt it's the film, more likely undissolved crystals in the bottom of the Rodinal bottle.

Jim, do not use the 2:2:100 dilution! It is much too fast for this slow film. I haven't used any APX25, but I would use the 1:1:150 version and do a minimal agitation routine. You might try about 12-14 minutes for a "normal" outdoor scene. Do a full minute of gentle agitation, followed by intervals of three minutes with ten second agitation cycles and see where you end up. Hopefully, someone who has worked out the numbers already can post to help here. This is just based on Efke 25, so I'm basically pulling numbers out of my a$$ for you, (not really of much help, to be sure) but I know now not to use a "hot" mix with a slow film. The minimal agitation routine should help a bit in controlling contrast. Best, tim

P.S. Please let us know what you find with this one. Too bad there isn't more film out there to use this developer with for better numbers.

OK! No, it's all help and I do have quite a bit of the same film in the 35mm version to do a test. I'll give your times a try and see. Thanks!

Mark

I doubt it's crystals from the the Rodinal; I use a syringe to get the syrup from the top of the bottle, however, that is a good thought.

I too would be interested in any results. I picked up a few rolls of 120 in its last days.
