Man does not live by cheesecake alone, David. Although in your case I sometimes wonder...! :D

Watching this thread with interest as I've wanted to join your outings for a while. Sadly, I've been to the UK about 10 times since you all started these get togethers, but I haven't been able to align the stars. If it's in Canterbury, I might have a better chance as it's very close to one of my company's sites and I have to go in the fall anyway ...

Regards, Art.

You will be very welcome Art, wherever the venue.

Sandeha - It certainly looks like a cheaper option, doesn't it?!

Bob - With practice, they'll do split-toning too!

Art - If you can make it, it'd be great to have you along.

We now have:

Sept 7-9 : 2 vote
Sept 14-16 : 3 votes
Sept 21-23 : 3 votes
Sept 28-30 : 3 votes
Oct 5-7 : 12 votes
Oct 12-14 : 8 votes
Oct 19-21 : 7 votes
Oct 26-28 : 8 votes

Oct 5-7 draws out its lead as we approach the final run up to the winning post, 26-28 and 12-14 starting to fade (though the selection of anywhere other than Cornwall as a location will give a 1 vote boost to 26-28)...

Unless there is a late charge from somewhere, it's looking like we have a winner. Close the betting Sunday midnight?

Mark, I guessed you meant Oct 5-7.

Cheers, Bob.

P.S. We regret to announce that all the September runners fell at The Chair and had to be shot...

Location tie-break poll started (there was a url link here which no longer exists). Poll closes in 5 days.

At the post, the winner by four lengths is Oct 5-7.

We have a place: Kent. We have a date: Friday-Sunday Oct 5-7.

<cue trumpet fanfare, general rejoicing, cries of "hurrah!" and the throwing of diverse head-wear in to the air>

Bob.

Sondry folk and motley crew...

Steady on guv - we'll all want to go next!

I for one will look forward to meeting up again...

Mark

Yeah, but Chaucer didn't have the M25 to contend with...

ROTFL! :D

I feel a rewrite of The Miller's Tale may be in order...!

Okay Leon, how many of us can you fit in your spare room and are you sure you've booked enough dancing-girls?

Well, those that dont fit into the dogs bed, I have a rather cold and smelly darkroom, I'm sure I can fit at least 2 in there, although you'll have to share with the spiders and small community of Masonry Bees.

I have the Chilham Retired Ladies Friendly Society and Flower Arranging Group on standby, so hold on to your hats boys, it's going to be a wild weekend.

Are people happy to stay in Chilham? It's about 7 miles outside Canterbury and prety central for both M2 and M20. It is very chocolate-boxy type picturesque so might be good for wandering around / pictures. We're a two pub village. Sadly, the Castle is not open that weekend, but there is a great view from the square. I've got a few ideas on photo locations, but they involve driving around a bit - maybe Daid Bebbington can throw a few into the equation too.

My thoughts are - Reculver Towers, Dungeness (do a web search, lots of pics of dungeness dotted round t'internet), whitstable, we could go into canterbury itself if people want to, but it's always packed and a nightmare to park/ drive around.

any thoughts David?

I'm happy with Chilham (especially as it's less distance for the ladies to travel!).

Dungeness sounds good. Been to Romney Marsh a couple of times but didn't get as far as there. You could easily spend a weekend pottering about Romney Marsh without going elsewhere (great on a bicycle) - marsh churches, Military canal, Romney and Old Romney, Winchelsea beach and environs...

Cheers, Bob.
