Hi All, server move is complete. We may need to do a bit of tweaking on the performance side to get everything running smooth. Please post feedback here.
It actually does need some tuning Just getting some caching tools installed that tie into the forum software. Hope to have that running within the hour
Some tuning has been done. I am on adsl in New Zealand (server is in USA) and it is flying pretty good. Still a few things to do on the server but so far so good.
it was plenty fast enough before the upgrade except some searches which continue to be very slow. i.e. looking up my user name in threads and posts.
I don't think its any faster for normal post viewing but as cache builds who knows.
I'm on ADSL with 11Mbit download speed. Good enough for most things except humongous downloads.

I'll be installing Elastisearch this week which replaces the stock search, it's supposed to be pretty awesome. I couldn't install it previously as our old server OS was outdated, but we're up to date now.

Elastisearch or stock search might be useful when using some advanced features, like searching titles, or posts from specific users, but google search specifically within apug (site:apug.org) is far better, it simply gives far more relevant results. IIRC, it was used in the previous version of the forum. Perhaps it could be added as another option?

I should have a fix for the site header in the next 12-24hrs, some may notice the navbar can 'blink' on page loads. It shouldn't be doing that and I have a code fix coming.
