I would really love to attend, and plan on doing so. A few workshops, also. However, my finances really can't handle the expense (it's not a small price for all of us) at this moment. It will involve some pinching and saving, for some time yet.

Is there a "currently-too-poor-to-pay-but-plans-on-attending" list?

Wow!! Jeanette, thanks for giving me the heads-up on this conference. I've been SO out of the loop lately that I completely missed this. I will have to attend, especially since I live within a 10 minute drive to the conference location!

I am really looking forward to putting some names to faces!

No one who has already registered or will register for a WS prior to the completion of the schedule will experience any conflicts. Frankly, you early registers will determining the schedule.

Meanwhile, Art has a very good post on accommodations (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Just registered for the conference and two workshops. I've also volunteered to take some attendees on one of the outings as well as what ever schlepping job Bob might (please be kind) find for me to do. I already know two faces behind some of the names here but I’d like to know more of them. So sign up soon and avoid the rush.

I’m curious if some thing comes up and I can’t make it, would it be possible to get a refund? Didn’t find anything on the conference web site about refunds.

I think people should have the chance to get refunds if they can't make it. Without talking to Bob, Eric or Art, I'd say a full refund (maybe less paypal fees) up until a month shy or just prior to the conference (thats incase your money is already spent). Then it would be as much as we can.

We'll talk it over and make something official.

This is why I haven't registered yet. If I could get a refund if I couldn't make it then I would sign up today.

Hi John
My vote would be for a refund less pay pal fees up until 2-4 weeks before the conference. Early sign up nows helps, we are not going to announce to the Toronto GTA now as I think we will get a lot of signups locally immediately with this conference and quite frankly I am more interested in seeing the APUG community showing up here in Toronto.
This conference idea was brought up over a year and a half with lots of interest. We have gone out and gotten some first rate instructors with a few more under our hats to announce and I would be dissapointed not to see support within our own little community.
As far as rooms , May is not the peak time and there are lots of options for hotel rooms even one month in advance. $75.00 is not a lot of money to commit to now so that we can plan and implement the next few stages.

I'd say offer:

Full refund minus paypal fees up to 60 days before.
50% refund up to 30 days before
No refunds less than 30 days

These conferences take time and money to organize, which everyone understands.

The hotel is pretty gracious in terms of refunds. Book now and you can cancel up to 30 days before with no penalty. After that, it's a one night charge.

I have to concur that $75CAD is a drop in the hat for a 3 day conference. And $50CAD per workshop session is a steal. I think this conference is very value added and certainly a non-profit endeavor.

Regards, Art.

Thanks guys that's a very resonable offer. I hope it inspires more people to signup early. It must be difficult you guys to do all this work for a conference your not sure people are going to come to.

Is this a serious offer, Michael? I can probably afford it so I don't want to burden you, but your portraiture workshop is one I plan on signing up for depending upon the schedule.

John, what is the description of Michael Smith's and Paula's Vision workshop and Paula's 1 on 1, Seeing with the Camera? I can sign up for 2 workshops and as I get the feeling that these may overlap I will only sign up for one and then the studio workshop.

ps: just sent my registration fee

Paula's and my Vision workshop is a prerequisite for the 1 on 1 workshop with Paula and also is prerequisite for the print critique workshop. I strongly recommend that anyone taking the Vision workshop take the 1 on 1 with Paula, (and the print critique, too, if possible).

These workshops will be similar to parts of the workshop we conduct at the "Vision and Technique" weekend workshop that we hold two to four times a year in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The cost of our V&T workshops is considerably higher than the cost will be at the APUG conference in Toronto, so you should consider the APUG workshops at the conference a bargain. From all reports we receive from those who have taken our V&T workshop, the combination of these workshops changes forever their aproach to photographic vision, and allows their own vision to emerge.

Hi John

I just recieved a cheque and workshops deposit from George and Beth Kawash, I will forward the package to Eric , but folks I am not handling the money side of this conference , it is with Eric Rose the third amigo in this conference organization. We tried to keep the money issues with a trusted third party as if the check was made out to Elevator well I would confuse the isssue as my life is pretty well complicated right now. I am to concentrate soley on the physical layout and supplys for the instructors and participants, right now John and Eric are handling the financial and marketing, George and Beth I will send your cheque to Eric and by the way thank you very much for signing up and taking on multiple workshops, we hope you will have a great time and find this conference of real value to you.
John , I do not think the sign up is clearly laid out as multiple people have tried to pay through Elevator as did the Kawash's.

By the way George, I saw you have taken the lith printing course with me but I have to admit I was the fall back guy for this course. We do have Dr Tim Rudman for this course and I will happily give up my duties and I think you will be well served with him teaching the course.

Eric Rose's address

Hi Bob

I just checked the registration form pdf. and it has your address as the place to send the form to. I haven't been able to find Eric's address. That's why I came to your place to register.

Hi Mike

That is an overlooked or not well thought out mistake on our part. I am talking to John this weekend re conference and I will bring forth this problem. You are right and others have tried to pay at my location and basically I am not in a position to deposit any monies to the APUG conference bank account. I will forward the Kawash's cheque but prefer not to redirect in the future.

Is there a mirror of last years Conference site anywhere? If the conference/fees/scheduling are anything like last year, it'd be benificial for me to make up a moch financial plan to attend. What was it, $75 for the pass and $75 per course? Any expected inflation this year? What was the time span and scheduling of the courses? Price for the trade show?
