So, if anyone is interested, I'll be heading "This is not an APUG Gallery Tour" tour on Thursday, May 4. Meet me at the Conference site at 10:30am. From here we'll see how many people are going and figure out things from there.

Ideally we'd like to get to the Junction area around 11:30am to start and be back at the conference by 3:30pm.

This tour will not be your average tour. We're going to go to a part of the city called the Junction. The photos on display in this area will be in everything from cafes, to hair salons to furniture stores, to regular galleries. The area is rich for street photography as well, so bring your cameras and walking shoes.

We'll stop for a snack in the afternoon and we'll be back at the conference with plenty of time for the opening ceremonies.

Regards, Art.

THE HOLE IN THE WALL, 2869A Dundas St W
Tommy Ferris, Robert O Hoski
Ferris - Using nothing more than the clothes worn on a typical day, The Clothes That We Wear creates an accurate portrait of twelve individual subjects. Each image is an in-depth, accurate portrait of an individual. O’Hoski – A “Mask” as agent of anonymity is used to express concealment, introspection, openness, projection, and revelation. “Torso” explores the expressive possibilities of light and shadow on the female anatomy, to celebrate organic forms and create abstract designs.

CORNERSTONE FINE FURNITURE, 2886 Dundas St W
PROCESS
AngelA Del Buono
"Process" strives to relate the intricate formations in the Earth to the human element that explores them. This work juxtaposes image and artifact, revealing the memories and emotions that these combinations can evoke.

He creates a portrait of familiar urban elements captured at street-level. Marilyn Lightstone spent the month of January, 2005 in Burma (Myanmar). FOREVER INTERIORS, 2903 Dundas St W
BEING IN AFRICA
Nancy Ceneviva
The first line of Paul Theroux's African travel memoir, Dark Star Safari, reads "All news out of Africa is bad." When we hear about the ravages of disease, hunger and war there, it seems impossible to disagree. And yet I do. I travelled to Kenya and Tanzania in August 2005 and while all news out of Africa may be bad, being in Africa is something much more. These photos are a bit of being in Africa.

THE HAIR LOUNGE, 2940 Dundas St W
TIME WAVES
Gera Dillon
Gera Dillon has long-been intrigued by the subject of Time and challenged by how to depict its passage in the stillness of photographs. "Time Waves" is a collection of triptychs and mirror-montages that treats the coast of Hornby Island, BC as a metaphor for the restless motion of Time shaping Space. These prints are enhanced impressions of Nature’s own etchings.

PANACHE ART GALLERY & CUSTOM, 2946 Dundas St W
WHY AM I HERE?
Patti Gower
To witness human suffering and survival is a responsibility taken on by each photojournalist. Arriving nearly one year after the tragedy to document the lives of the survivors, Patti Gower is confronted with her own purpose of being there. In an ode to the critical writing of Susan Sontag, Patti Gower walks through the Tsunami story, exploring her own journey in a role, coined often by Sontag, as voyeur. Large screen projection May 6, 9pm.

WEST TORONTO PAINT & WALLPAPER, 2975 Dundas St W
FORM AND MOTION: PART I
P. Marco Veltri
Form and motion is a photographic study of dance that questions the place of art in our daily lives. These art out of context images are designed to question why we separate art from our normal day to day activities. The collection also contains blurred images of dance movements that are designed to capture the energy and hidden shapes and forms in dance.

FILE UNDER F: FACT OR FICTION?
Erin Glover, Suvi Kuisma, Robert Malinowski, Iza Mokrosz, Emily Muir, Jen Silk
In our globalized world it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. Both are easily stretched and the two can become one. As communication methods multiply, our ability (or failure) to connect with others is magnified and our stories and intentions are at an increased risk of misinterpretation despite a wider audience. It is tempting to return to simpler ways. The artists explore the boundaries of fact and fiction, or the supposition of a dominance of one over the other. Curated by Ester Pugliese.

A QUIET PASSION
Penny Jamieson
Hand- painted silver gelatin photography. Working in 35mm format, prefering natural light my goal is to evoke both the peaceful and joyful aspects of life. Consisting mainly of beachscapes and still-life, each image is hand-toned and/or partially hand- painted using oils. Painting my images offers me an added challenge in my art and expands my artistic and creative horizon. Large screen projection May 6, 9pm.

JUXTA-POSE
Jorge Figueiredo
We live in a wonderous world, where cultures mix, sometimes slowly, at other times with a great crash. Inevitably each party leaves influenced by the other, their personal borders eroded. If you keep your eyes open, you will see this exchange. In people, in things, from raw nature. But there is always an exchange. Perhaps you will take something from what you see...

BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL!
GlobalAware
A compilation of photographic images chosen to inspire questions about how we percieve the world around us. Subtle and ambiguous content encourages active engagement by presenting the questions: "Is it political?"/”Is everything/anything political?” As a whole, the exhibit asks us to consider the social, cultural, emotional and historical bases for how we understand and label the world. Without pre-determining interpretation, the exhibit becomes a potentially intense political and reflexive experience. Curated by The GlobalAware collective.
