Apug Conference Dates, and Place

Did the Apug community ever decide on a time and place for the 2007 APUG conference?

I couldnt find this out from the 14 page forum about it.

I say we invade Rochester, NY and get a group shot of everyone in front of the Kodak HQ, taken with an old Cirkut camera, and then send the Kodak execs copies of the image showing them how many film users there still are out there.

When California was having rolling blackouts a couple of years ago, we had dark rooms everywhere...

I'd offer my darkroom, but it 50 miles from San Jose and only big enough for me!

Yes, but I think Adobe defines "darkroom" somewhat differently.

Nearby Santa Clara has its own power grid and we have always been rolling-blackout free.

Above idea is pretty funny, but logical too. Isn't the George Eastman house in Rochester? So there are some things people could do. A Cirkut shot would just be icing on the cake, but prolly impossible since many large corps. don't allow photography on their property.

Kodak not allowing photos on their property would be kind of like Camp Lejune not allowing guns on their firing range. Not that it couldn't happen, but still...

I tried Googling for info on Kodak plant tours, but can't find anything.

Figured that such a site, if I could find it, would spell out whether photography is allowed or not.

Most factories of any sort don't allow it - trade secrets and all that.

I could totally buy not allowing it INSIDE the plants - but how much trade secret are you going to be able to capture when photographing the outside of a large, light-tight building? Yep, it's a big yellow and red box. And there's men and women in bunny-suits coming and going from the one door on the other side..... wait... are they really human? Are those chemical thermometers they're toting, or..... ?????

All kidding aside, Eastman House would be a fantastic place for a conference if it could be arranged. I attended a one day workshop there in 1999 on wet collodion process put on by Mark & France Scully Ostermann and it was the thrill of a lifetime. Photographs of the participants were taken during the workshop. I only regret not allowing enuff time to properly tour all that Eastman House has to see. Would love to go back, and an APUG Conference would sure be a grand excuse to go there.

In say a little over a year and half if someone else wanted to step up and take it on in all of it's complexity and expense, that is when it is time to have a say and actually do the work. I agree about not wanting to re-open this issue. But I did want to mention that if memory serves, part of the decision regarding holding the 2007 one in Toronto again was that it would take more than a year to do the preparation so holding it in the same location for a 2nd year would allow the 2007 conference to happen around the same time of the year, whereas holding it somewhere else would require it to be held later in the year. Just thought I'd point out that if someone has a spot in mind for 2008 and is able and willing to step up to the plate then they might want to start putting in their "bid" before the 2007 conference.

Just make sure that the photos are taken with Ilford or Fuji film, with lots of logoed apparel on everyone....hehehehe!

Maybe we can get the Fuji blimp to do a flyover...

Bill is correct re conference in Toronto.
All Elevator will be planning is a possible mini conference in July 2007 that envolves less instructors but with longer and more detailed course lengths.
We will be posting the info this month but it will not be an APUG conference.

I'll do the cirkut shot- with or without kodak or Rochester- assuming I'm able to make it. Maybe the george eastman house would be a good location. Also, I went to school in Rochester (RIT) and know a great state park less than an hour away with wonderful natural rock formations (sort of- really dirt) on Lake Ontario. Great place to shoot.
A cirkut shot would be fun- I'm ready!

I don't think if the 150 or so who attended the 2006 APUG conference had their portrait taken in front of Kodak Headquarters, it would impress the Kodak Executives that film users are in abundance in today's market. From a business perspective it would more likely confirm to them that their decisions were correct. All of us support the continuation of the use of film. But from a business perspective, we are sadly a small nitch in the worldwide photo industry.

Some dig. guys (probably and Adobe) say dig darkroom got a name because when you turn light off they see pic better... It is not a joke.
I just wonder do they also feel a strange smell from that picTuRes so it can be "WID" room "washum in darkness".
