I was thinking about either the Crowne Plaza or the Marrott.

I'm still weighing my options on hotel room vs. cheaper hostel, but if anyone is interested in sharing a room in one of the hotels near the Conference let me know.

my tentative plan is to be in toronto from sunday (4/30) to sunday (05/07). i havent picked lodging yet, but i will likely pick the crowne plaza or best western. i will at least get a double beds room. i wouldn't mind sharing a room if someone wants -- even if you need a room for only a few days. i hope to have a 4x5 tank and chemicals with me. i'm a nonsmoker.

i have a few friends in toronto, so i may be visiting with them on mon-wed.

if anybody is interested, let me know so i can hold off for a few days on booking. pm aggie or shmoo if you need personal references i attended the Zion workshop last year.

Glengrove Suites Toronto Midtown
I don't know much about this hotel. It is relatively nearby and easy to get/from the conference. It is near many shops and restaurants.

Maybe I can help a little here -- the Glengrove is more like suites for semi-long-term stay. They have weekly rates, I think. The rooms (at least some of them) have kitchenettes, etc. It is located on Yonge St. about 2/3 of the way from Eglinton to Lawrence. There is lots of shopping and restaurants all the way down to Eglinton, which would probably be a 20-30 minute walk. It is right near some of the toniest neighbourhoods in Toronto if anyone is interested in seeing big houses.

Some more clarity: There is no hotel that is within walking distance to the Conference!

Both the Best Western (recommended at 3.5km from conference) and the Crowne Plaza (Don Valley Parkway <-- the highway not the park! and Eglinton at 4.7km) will require transportation to the conference.

If you booked at the Crowne Plaza and think you can walk to the conference, be prepared for a 30-40 minute walk. Some of you think the Crowne Plaza is the former Inn on the Park (so did I for a while) at Leslie and Eglinton. This is not the case. The Inn on the Park is being renovated to high end condos.

I finally booked at the Best Western Roehampton. Will be arriving Toronto on May 3 in pm, and leaving on May 9.

BTW, I assume rates quoted are in Canadian dollars? What is the current exchange rate?
