APUG Benefit Auction Sale - Ansco Speedex 4.5 Special Made in Germany - Uses 120 Film.
For the benefit of APUG we are pleased to present one Ansco Speedex folding camera. Let's get the nastiness out on the table right up front. This camera is powerful ugly. It is suffering from a pretty good case of flash surface rust over just about all of the chrome. The shutter is snappy and happy at 25 and faster, but hangs at lower speeds. As an added bonus, the front element focusing is extremely stiff. It will absolutely need to be unscrewed and regreased. (The lens is not frozen, it is just super stiff, so it is 100% fixable.)
Now for the good stuff. The lens, a fairly respectable Agfa Apotar 85 f/4.5, is sparkling clear. The leatherette is pretty much perfect. Film advance is smooth and easy. Aperture is smooth and easy, just like new. Bellows is (are?) 100% light-tight. And best of all, it takes 120 film.
The auction format has been successful to date so let's try it again. If folks don't care for it just let me know and we can switch to another method. Here are the rules. We will leave the camera up for sale until midnight Eastern US time on Thursday July 12th. If you are interested in it just post a response with your 'bid'. Opening bid is $5 just to keep it interesting. Minimum advance is $1. Bids must be time stamped by 11:59 PM or earlier on July 12 (tonight!). Good luck! Just post if any questions. Sorry for the poor photos but the digi is behaving badly at the moment.
All funds will be paid directly to the APUG as a fundraiser. Shipping costs will be in addition to the 'hammer' price, but will also benefit APUG. The camera is in New England in the USA.
Thanks everyone for the interest!
