As far as Koudelka is concerned, I'm way beyond appreciation.

I'm certainly an appreciator of Koudelka and have a couple of his books, but I don't know the photograph that Clive posted in the original post. From the subject I might guess that it's from his book "Ruins" - but does anyone know the place? Has a sculpture (the lighter stones) been added to the ruin?

It is from Ruins, but since I don't have the book 😭😭😭, I don't know where it was taken. For this project, Koudelka visited hundreds of archeological sites throughout the Mediterranean world.

I was curious about your having the book because it covers 1991-2015. Since he started using a custom Leica S digital in 2013, I wonder if there were any of those images in the book and whether there was any noticeable difference.

Whoa! Love this. Here’s a bit from the book of this photo.

Amman, Jordan, Citadel, Temple of Hercules. The sculpture is hand and elbow from colossal structure likely Hercules destroyed in earthquake in 2nd century.

I doubt there would be. From the book Josef Koudelka Next, we learn that all the images for the exhibition and book were either scanned or printed by Christophe Batifoulier from Picto, who worked very closely with Koudelka. Also invoved was Clarisse Bourgeois chief of production at Magnum Paris.
