I am planning on printing some photos this weekend, and would like to apply Sistan to them after washing. The problem is that I can't get any Sistan from my regular photo retailer for another week or so. My RC prints will be very dry by then! Will I be able obtain the same protective effect of Sistan if at a later date I re-wet the prints and then apply the Sistan?
regards
Peter
P.S. does anyone know a retailer in Sydney or on-line in OZ who would have a good chance of having Sistan in stock on their shelves? This would help me to get my hands on it more quickly. Vanbar has none in stock and hasn't ordered any since about March 2005, they can't have any new orders approved until the signatory returns from holidays.
I suppose that if the prints aren't exposed to extraordinarily high levels of pollutants while on display under 1000-watt spot lights, that waiting a week shouldn't be too harmful. Buy the 1 liter sized bottle, and it should last you until they introduce some new product to replace it. Just think--if you bought a liter of Sistan and a liter of Rodinal, you could probably develop film for the next fifteen years, and you would only need to buy fixer.
Think you should resoak the prints in water for 3-4 minutes prior before the Sistan bath, but so long as they're clean you shouldn't have a problem.
