Apparently I owned a Nikon F100 at some point

I have no memory of owning it though. I was digging through old ebay feedback looking for clues to the model number of something I bought years ago and came across feedback for a purchase. Actually, feedback for TWO F100 purchases. The only thing I can think of is the first one had issues and was returned, but I don't have any memory of this. The only Nikon AF film body I remember owning was the N80. Weird.

The purchase is old enough that there is no date or other detail. Judging by my film purchases at B&H, I would have stopped using film around 2008. I distinctly remember taking pictures of my newborn daughter using my Olympus OM1 when she was born in 2008 and switching to digital shortly after. I owned the Olympus from early 2001 till sometime around 2009 and used it in parallel with the N80. I sold the N80 before getting out of film, sticking with my OM1 for a bit longer, but I don't know why I'd have the F100 in those latter years of my film usage. I don't think it was fraudulent use of my account because I would have noticed a purchase like that (also it's the only purchase I don't recall), but I just don't remember owning an F100. I owned a couple digital Nikon SLRs before going to M43 and briefly owned a Nikon FE.

This is going to bug the crap out of me now.

Has to be. None of my posts here (Apug back then) during the time I was shooting with the N80 and OM1 reference an F100.

And I agree, I think I'd remember an F100 since I remember every other camera I've owned (Canon TLQL, Olympus OM1, Nikon N80, Nikon FE, Graflex Speed Graphic, Voigtlander Perkeo, Canon FT, Canon New F-1, Canon VT, Canon VL3, Rollei A110, Kodak Brownie, Argus Seventy Five). I can't fathom remembering all those and NOT the F100, especially since it was kind of a pricey camera still when I was shooting film in the early 2000s.

The only thing that comes to mind is BOTH F100s had issues and I returned them both without any significant usage.

It has to be something like that for a reason. Otherwise if owning 2 made such little impression on you. I'd better drop any idea of getting one

The F100 is as close to a F6 as I will ever get, or ever want to get.

2 weak points: the door latch (there is a metal repair kit available) and the diopter adjustment screw breaking (no real fix).

Other than that, it is a superb camera. Get a good one, treat it right and you'll love it.

Just curious, why wouldn't you want to get an F6? Not being a troll, I'm legitimately asking, because I think they're great cameras. If I could only have one camera (perish the thought ) it would be an F6

Basically because of price and the fact that it cannot improve my photography over what I can do with the very capable F100.

No, I understand the allure of the camera; I just have too many other cameras that confirm my skills equally mundane regardless of Brand/Model/price.

This is the worst case of buyers remorse I've ever come across. For many people an F100 sticks in the memory and everywhere else for that matter. If I was a psychotherapist I would say you need to confront your demons and buy another F100, and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol.

Heh. If I were to buy a Nikon today, it would be an FE or FM series. Maybe the F100 experience was traumatic and I'm trying to block its memory.

Having owned all the Nikon "Pro" Series cameras (F, F2, etc.), I would settle on the F-5, with an F-4 as a back-up. I owned the F-6, but I never thought it was as good as my F-5. Off course, I really never needed the F-6 features over the F-5. I also owned the F-100, and it was a great camera along with my F-5.

Sounds like my attempts at trying to buy a working F3 !
The first two were listed as in full working order , but the shutters wouldn't fire or wind on . Even with the mechanical shutter release override.

The third attempt was one listed as faulty due to a defective back .
Following an email where the seller assured me everything else was spot on , I bought it .
And everything else was spot on .
On the same day I bought that , someone had just listed a spare F3 back cheap , so I got a complete, working F3 for about half the going rate .

I'm in the process of having a clear out and downsize in preparation of getting a smaller place to live ( stuff builds up over thirty or forty years !) and I've come across several things I don't remember buying , and other things I must have forgot I'd bought already , and bought a second !

Apparently SWMBO "vaguely" remembers these purchases and thinks I returned one because it was faulty and the other because it wasn't what I hoped for or something. Dunno, I still don't remember it.

That's why I said FM series.

TBH, I'm perfectly happy with my "New F-1". It took a bit to grow on me, but it's my go-to SLR now. I don't see myself getting yet another system. Canon FL and FD and Canon LTM is enough diversity for my tastes.

I still own a Nikon 100 and I still use it. I have not had any door problems.

I had a similar experience during last couple days. I was browsing my photography -gear folder and ran into a subfolder named "Nikkor 180mm f2.8 AI-S ED". Hmmm.. I have such folders for all my lenses but I have no recollection at all that I have one like that?! Inside there was a copy of ebay ad (from 2019) which said "you bought this item" on top and then bunch of pics from the sales ad. I really do not think that I own this lense?

Maybe it was broken and I returned it? Or lost in mail? I went through my emails to see if I was refunded for it? No. Same thing in Paypal, found only a payment. Then I realized I can still see 2019 deals in "My ebay". Its there and its marked delivered on certain date. Weird. It must be somewhere then?

I then went through my boxes of acive photography stuff ie. stuff I currently mostly use. There is a Zuiko lense among the stuff? Ok, I have noticed it before but didn't think much of it. I do have Zuikos but I no longer use them so they are packed away in separate box in the garage. Maybe this is something worth investigating? I go look there and among the Zuiko stuff is the Nikkor 180mm!! So, I iuse black soft cordura lense protector bags and at some point I mixed the two and packed the Nikkor away with the Zuiko stuff.

I honestly think I never took a single photo with this lense after I bought it and must have packed it away by mistake very quickly after the purchase. Now its like I have a new lense again! Yesterday I took half a roll of photos with it (F3+180mm) already!
