Aperture numbers on wrong side of lens?

I just got s Leica Summarit 50mm f1.5 and the aperture numbers are on the opposite side to usual, when mounted on the camera they are underneath the lens and i cannot read them, could the lens have been adjusted somehow?

I agree. Summarit 50mm f1.5's were manufactured from 1949 to 1960 so at some point it has been taken apart & put back together incorrectly.

Which begs the question, what else was put back incorrectly? And just how oblivious was the technician?
Why I avoid things that I don't know who's worked on.

Right. Someone who's taken the lens apart and is oblivious to having re-assembled it incorrectly is someone whose tinkering cannot be trusted.

Get your money back and return the lens.

aperture ring or lens mount flipped 180 degrees?


Easiest would be to try the mount first. Of course this assumes the focusing index is also at the bottom

Is the aperture ring pointing to the correct number, and the whole assembly 180 degrees out of phase?

Loosen the three set screws on the mount and rotate the whole module back into place.

If the aperture ring itself is out of phase with the numbers, means the front section was not screwed in far enough, or has been replaced with another.
