If your travel plans take you anywhere near Dayton, Ohio this summer, do yourself a favor and stop by the Dayton Art Institute (DAI). The exhibit "Aperture at Fifty" runs until July 30 and is a must-see.

Never before have I seen such a broad range of work displayed in one show. Photographers represented include: Paul Caponigro, Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Brett Weston, Harry Callahan, Minor White, Sebastian Salgado, Dorothea Lange, Imogen Cunningham, Alfred Stieglitz, Tina Modotti, Brassai, Atget, Joel Peter Witkin, O. Winston Link, Diane Arbus, Emmit Gowin, Robert Frank, Gary Winnogrand, Euguene Smith, and many, many others.

What a fabulous opportunity to see original prints from so many of the greatest photographers of the past century (or more) in one place.

And did I mention that it was free?

The Art Institute is open 365 days a year from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

IMHO, DAI is one of the finest mid-market art museums in the nation, BTW.

Well what do you know, that snuck up on me. Guess I'll have to drive the 4 or so miles and see it!

I drove down to the DIA about two years ago for a Weston exhibit. Wonderful place. I think it is time for another trip. Thanks for posting this information.

Visited Saturday. Well worth the trip.

I think the highlight for me was the Man Ray print.

Thanks again for the info swhitford.
